Not a big shoe person....

I bought my shoes with my dress over a year ago, and I tried them on for the first time last week, and walked around the house, and not even half an hour later my feet were killing me!! I am not a big heel person, and the heels are the tallest I have ever worn.

Should i try the Dr. Scholls inserts for heels??

I tried finding new shoes but I can't find anything that I like better. What do you think I should do??

Re: Not a big shoe person....

  • I voted to keep them and try to stretch them out/get Dr. Scholl's inserts.

  • I picked #2 because just because you haven't found any you don't like as much doesn't mean there aren't any out there.  I'd hate to be in uncomfortable shoes on my wedding day.  It would be a big huge downer. lol

  • You are going to be miserable if you dont have comfortable shoes the day of. I couldnt imagine being on my feet as long as I was without comfortable shoes on.

I voted go back to the drawing board. I would look for a shorter heel.

    This.

OP, can you see your shoes while walking around in your dress?  If the answer is no, my suggestion would be to not worry about the style of show but only about the comfort level.  I wore a cute pair of shoes for my reception and then a mere 45 minutes later I switched to my VS wedge flip flops.  I am so happy I did because my feet didn't hurt me for the rest of the evening and no one even noticed the change because my shoes didn't show.

  • If you've had them for that long, there's no way you can return them at this point, so I'd say try the inserts and walking around the house to break them in and stretch them out.  Meanwhile, keep looking for a new pair of shoes.  If you get the shoes you have worn in enough that they're not uncomfortable, then you can stop looking for new shoes.  If you find new ones, then you're good to go there.  Just make sure the new ones don't have the same problem!
  • I vote find new shoes.  Is it the height of the heel or the fact that they need broken in?  I myself cannot wear anything above 2" even though I have tried everything.
  • Thanks ladies for all of the input!! and maggie, you cant really see them, but my dress can't really be altered too much more due to beading and design. And Cortney, I don't think its the heel part, I think they just need to be stretched, cause i was blessed with my mothers wide feet... I will keep looking and hope i find something that will work but will also wear these shoes in the mean time and hope they stretch!! :)

    You ladies are the best!

  • I'm a big believer in comfortable shoes, so I'd maybe try wearing them around the house a few more times and if they're not any more comfortable after that I'd be buying new, lower heeled shoes asap.

  • My suggestion was to keep the shoes. Stretching them out will make a big difference, and the inserts will help alleviate some pressure. You may also want to try to "train" yourself to be more comfortable in higher heels by working your way from small heels up to the heel that you purchased.

In the meantime, I still think you should be on the look-out for shoes that may be more comfortable. Look into either heels with platforms (they'll get you the height you need without having to have the super high heel-height) or platform sandals.

    Good luck!

  • Try taking them to a shoe repair place and ask them to stretch them for you. And then bring a back-up pair of flats for the reception!

  • Every pair of heels i have EVER owned only get comfortable with wear. I wear heels to work every day ranging in size from 2"-5" and they all start out relatively uncomfortable but loosen up and don't "rub" as much with time.

If rubbing is an issue, you could also try the foam pads for shoes. I buy the heel liners for every pair of shoes I own because they help them stay on my feet and prevent the heel from rubbing and causing a blister.

  • What exactly hurt while you were wearing them? Dr. Scholls might remedy the problem if the ball of your foot was hurting or some pads on the inside could alleviate rubbing. If its an arch problem or they're just generally uncomfortable you might want to find new shoes :(

  • Buy the inserts and keep trying to break in the pair you have, but in the meantime start shopping for something you are comfortable with.  I am kind of in your boat.  I hate shoes too.  I cannot stand to have my foot enclosed in a shoe so I wear flip flops/sandals all year long.  I live in Iowa and even will wear them if it is snowing.  So instead of heels, that besides never wearing heels that I would fall flat on my face in, I am wearing platform flip flops dressed up with our flowers - a gerber daisy in pink.
  • cs, it's not an arch problem its more the ball of my foot and rubbing on the outsides, since they are brand new and have been in a box for at least a year. I will just keep trying to stretch them out for the ceremony, then may just end up in flipflops at the rehersal!! :)

Thanks for the encourgment ladies, :)

  • Having worked in shoes, I'd say if you want to stretch them, depending on the material, rubbing alcohol is a great option.  That's what is in the spray they use in department store shoe departments when they stretch them for you.  What I do is I take a pair of thin socks, put them on, rub the inside of the shoe (works best with leather shoes, but also works well on fabric) with rubbing alcohol, then wear them for at least an hour.  Repeat multiple times if necessary.
