how to prepare for a my bridal appt

So ladies, this may be a dumb question but I am just curious as to what each of you has done in preperation for a bridal appt.

This Saturday will be my very first experience trying on wedding dresses.  I made an hour appt at a bridal salon near to where I live.  I am bringing two girlfriends with me to give me feedback, but I am not quite certain what to expect..

I don't know what I need to wear to somehting like this?  And what about undergarments?  Does it matter what kind?  Should I wear spanx?  Go with hair and makeup done?  Since my wedding is in FL, I have contracted a makeup artist there to do my makeup but don't have anyone here to do a trial run of make up and hair if in case thats what most girls usually do??

Can you ladies give me some feedback as to how you all prepared and what you wore to try on wedding dresses...including support wear if applicable! LOL

Thanks!!

  • Bring a strapless bra and photos of dresses you like.  I didn't do anything other than normal for my hair/make-up.  You probably wouldn't know how you want those done until after you get the dress.
  • Like PP said, bring a strapless bra and photos of dresses you like.  Wear more modest underwear if you're shy.  If you plan on wearing spanx under your dress, you could wear them to the salon also, but if you don't it won't be a big deal.  Besides that, I'd bring a bottle of water (trying on dresses gets HOT), a small snack if you're the type whose blood sugar dips easily, and a hair elastic if you have longer hair.
    Good luck!

  • 1) Shave your legs
    2) Wear or bring a strapless bra
    3) Wear nice underwear you won't mind someone seeing you in :)
    4) Bring photos of dresses
    5) I didn't have my hair "done"...but I curled it so it looked nicer and sort of the way I would possibly like it on my wedding day and I wore makeup but I do that daily anyway.
    6) HAVE FUN!
  • Ditto, PP's.

Bring or wear a strapless bra, and wear modest underwear. If you have an idea of what you dresses you like, bring some photos. Though I had no idea what I wanted and so I tried on all different styles of dresses. Having a hair tie handy is helpful for when you try on veils so that they have something to attach it to. You could also bring a pair of heels if you'd like - but I didn't even think of that and survived just fine without them. Also, keep in that mind many (but not all) salons will not allow you to take photos of you in dresses until you've decided you're going to purchase it. If you have more than one appointment in the day, I advise a lunch break in between to collect your thoughts about what you already tried on and to also keep your energy up for the next appointment.

  • Thank you all soo much!  I feel much better now having an idea of what to do/wear.

  • Thank you ladies for your feedback.  I definitely feel soooo much better now that I know what to expect and what to wear/bring.

    Definitely helpful!!
  • I wanted to add that you should also be open to trying on styles you didn't think you would like. When I tried on my photo dream dress, I looked like a birthday cake. The dress I ended up with was nowhere near anything I had been trying on, but it caught my eye in the salon, and I gave it a try. I never wanted to take it off.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yes one exercise that I did that I would suggest is that you try on different style gowns at your first appointment (A-line, sheath, ball gown, fit & flare).  This will help give you an idea as to what works on your body and it also helps to give you a clearer idea as to what you like & don't like
