Has anyone dyed shoes before?

I can't find the bridal shoes that I want in ivory. They seem to only come in satin or crepe luxe white to be dyed. I've never done anything remotely like dying before--is it hard? Is it easily screwed up? I'm afraid of buying a $50+ pair of shoes only to mess them up when I try to dye them to match my dress!

Any advice is appreciated.

I bought my wedding shoes at David's Bridal.  I think they were $60 but it only cost $3 to dye them (they do the dye job in-store), and they turned out great.

I would imagine you can purchase dyeable shoes at most bridal salons.

  • I purchased a pair of shoes from DB for a wedding I was in and had them dyed in their wine color to match the BM dress.  The shoes were uncomfortable (it might have just been that style but I said never DB shoes again) and the dye rubbed off on my feet.  By the end of the night my feet looked like they were bleeding!

  • I would leave the dyeing to a professional.  However, after reading about the "bleeding feet" brides in the PPs, I almost think it would be better to leave them white or ivory colored!

Forgive me for laughing about it ladies, but I can just picture you both on your honeymoons going for a swim with red blotches on your feet LOL!

  • Aw, mine bled a little bit, but it came off with a wet papertowel. It wasnt a big deal, just know that if you dye your shoes there are no guarantee's if your shoes get wet.

We spryaed mine with protective spray, and it rained a bit,so in the end my shoes ran a bit.But they served their purpose, and still looked great in pictures. So I say go ahead if you want to have them dyed, just have it done professionally. Good luck.
