Wearing an antique gown, need reception dress advice

What does a bride wear to the reception if she can't wear her wedding gown?

I am planning on wearing my future mother-in-law's gown.  I love the gown, it's vintage satin and lace and has been in the family for several generations.  I've been warned that it may tear, and that I shouldn't feel bad if it disintegrates while I'm wearing it.  It is, however, too fragile for dancing, partying, etc.

What type of dress should I be looking at?  The wedding will be early autumn, outdoors, late afternoon.

I would say go with a white or any other color you want knee length dress. Since your wedding isn't until next fall, I would start looking in the spring when all the spring and summer dresses come out. You should be able to find a good deal on something. I would check all the dept stores and hit the clearance racks, too.

BCBG has the best party dresses! check there for sure....they usually have white too, if thats what you're looking for.
