Distressed! Is my dream gown too formal for my garden wedding?

I just found a beautiful dress at david's bridal that I absolutely fell in love with and purchased.  However, a family member mentioned that it may be way to formal for my location.  I will be having an outdoor May wedding in a garden.  I plan to have the ceremony start at 4:00 with roughly 150 attending.  The dress style number is V8377 on their site.  I can't copy the image for some reason or else I'd add it here.  Hopefully the link works so that you can see it for yourself. Just to give a description, it is a satin halter A-line gown with beaded lace applique and cut-out-lace hem. The train length is Chapel.  Isle runners will prevent the train from touching the ground.  Can someone give me some advice?  I feel like I might have broken some rule by getting such a gown for a garden wedding.  Please help.

  • OMG, that dress is beautiful!  I think it will look perfect at a garden wedding.  We are having a garden ceremony and my dress is from David's bridal, style #v9665.  I love this dress, but my Grandmother called and said she wasn't sure satin was right for a July wedding since in her day satin was for winter weddings.  I nicely told her that I thought the dress I was picked was fine for my wedding and she dropped it.

If you love your dress, that is all that matters!!

Oh you can wear what you want, I wore a Maggie Sabelle for our outdoor ceremony!  It was a little heavy but it was pretty cool out and we even took all of our pics outside with it dragging over everything!

Don't doubt your decision!  BTW, your dress looks much lighter and the lace is perfect for a garden wedding! I love it!
  • It is a beautiful dress!  Definitely wear it if it is what you want. This is why I went dress shopping alone, didn't have to worry about anyone talking me out of the dress I wanted.
  • Thank you all so much!  I feel better about my decision now.  You've been such a help.  :-)  One less thing to worry about.
  • I think it looks perfect! If you love it then that is all that matters Smile
  • That dress is gorgeous! I think it will be smashing for a garden wedding.
