Bridesmaids Jewelry -- Clash with Bride?

My bridesmaids are asking me what type of jewelry they can wear.  Each of them picked their own style of dress (all are dyed in pewter chiffon).  I am not dictating their hairstyle or makeup.  I am not planning to purchase jewelry because I have other gifts for them.  My dress is strapless, and I am wearing a three-strand pearl necklace.  I was thinking of letting them choose either pearls or silver jewelry.  I like the idea of letting them personalize their own look, but I can't decide if I'm ok with them wearing pearls.  If it were you, would you want one of your bridesmaids wearing pearls if that's what you (the bride) were planning to wear?  Or am I making it a bigger deal than it really is?

  • I would not say anything but since they asked, I'd ask them to avoid a 3 strand pearl necklace but not forbid pearls completely. I don't think someone wearing a single strand necklace or earrings is a big deal.

  • Honestly?  Nobody is going to pay attention to their jewelry, and there is no way that they will ever overshadow you, even if they end up wearing pearls.  You are going to be the one in the big white dress, KWIM?   I'd recommend just letting them wear whatever they want.

  • All the gals wore pearls at our wedding, including my mother.  We didn't wear the exact same thing though.  As long as they didn't wear the three strand pearls, I'd be fine with it.
