Ideas for removing train???

I originally wanted a light pink dress for our wedding, since this is a second wedding for both of us. However, the dress I found and ordered is white and comes with a sweep train. I want to get rid of the train...do I have it cut off or just have it bustled the whole time??

Any suggestions??

Re: Ideas for removing train???

  • You will have to talk to a seamstress about removing the train, but I would bet that it would be much cheaper to do a simple bustle.

  • I tried on some dresses that I loved except for the trains, and apparently it depends on what kind of fabric/how many layers are involved but getting rid of the train is likely to be super expensive.  It seems that bustling is probably the way to go!
  • I originally did not want a train because of the ceremony and reception being outside. However, the dress, I fell in love with had a train. The seamstress said that it would be at least 200 to remove the train because of the material and the beadwork. (this was almost the cost of the dress) Instead I went with a bustle for $50 that shows off the bead work. There are many different styles of bustles, and a seamstress would know the best one for the dress.

with that dress, it wouldn't be too much. do you need it hemmed as well? if you're having it hemmed i would think it would be the same to hem the train as well.
even if not, there isn't any beadwork or crazyness on the train to up the price. it may not cost much at all.
  • Thanks for all the responses. I meet with my seamstress last weekend for my first fitting. We are going to just bustle the train. Works for me!!
