Sigh, I do love a large dress

What would have been my 6th wedding anniversary just passed. I'm widowed. Newly engaged and looking at dresses. I want something different this time around, but keep coming back to the ball gown style, which I will NOT tempt myself into again...

First wedding at a Moated Manner house in the UK. Some pics, because it was an awesome day, and I'm in love again, but miss my late husband dearly and always will. Just wanted to share a bit with some poeple who would "get it".

<--- see, husband could barely find room on bench with all that dress!! ;)

Re: Sigh, I do love a large dress

  • Oh my goodness, I am sorry to hear about your loss. My suggestion would be to try some dresses with some rouching (or however it is spelled and pronounced). I was a Sottero & Midgley bride but my dress was more fitted and a-line. I do know Maggie Sottero has some fuller styles though. I guess I am just partial to these brands bc the 2 dresses I had it narrowed down to were 1 of each of these brands. Good luck and have fun!
  • Your dress is gorgeous!! At the moment I'm thinking tea-length for afternoon ceremony or a simple sheath for evening. It'll be fun, and my girls know me and will steer me away from all the yards of tulle... LOL!
  • Thank you. You might try looking at the destination wedding lines. I know Maggie Sottero has one. You might also try Jessica McClintocks website. She has some really nice ones for pretty good prices that don't have really long trains.
  • I'm very sorry for your loss but happy that you've been lucky enough to find an amazing love twice in one lifetime so congrats!!!

If a big/ballroom style dress is your style, it's your style, your preferences didn't change just because your life has but I understand why you would want to go for something different this time around.

I would really think about what it is that you love most about that style and what flatters you the best, is it the tighter waistline? Then look for maybe vintagey-style swing dresses that are a bit shorter in length. Is it that you feel more bridal in a bigger ballroom-style? Then maybe get a spectacular veil. Is it the fabric? Then look for something with tulle accents....you get the idea.

  • You look stunning in your pictures.  What beautiful memories you must have.

I wish you every happiness with your new husband. (You are allowed to wear a ball gown again if you want to. ) Or maybe a gorgeous mermaid gown for something sexy? I'm sure you'll find the perfect gown for this wedding.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you the best in your upcoming marriage. Finding love twice can be hard, and you succeeded.

I say you go with whatever you want and feel comfortable in. There are some tea length dresses that still have a bit of tulle, and are still quite gorgeous. Stephanie James Couture has gorgeous and full tea length gowns.

But again, do whatever you want hun. Best wishes!

Again, I am sorry for your loss.  Congrats on your new engagement.

If you still want the big gown, but not ballroom, what if you try an a-line with a big crinoline?

  • Thanks!! There's a tea length I love- "Beautiful" By Blue Bridal-

And something like this maggie Sottoro would be nice if it's an evening wedding-

There are so many gorgeous options, I know I'll find a non-ball gown I love! :)
