wedding dress woes

So I found the perfect wedding dress at a small boutique owned by an older couple I decided to start making payments on it now they have called me and told me their shutting down and I need to pay the rest in full but times are a little hard and I won't have it b4 they close what should I do :-(

Re: wedding dress woes

  • Can you get your money back and find the same dress at a different boutique???  If they say no did you sign a contract specifying that you could do the payments in increments.  If so bring show them that.  That's not fair and not your fault.

  • Yeah so what if theyre shutting down, they cant expect you to pay it all just because of that, especially if you signed a contract stating that youre paying installments, like pp said. If its their own business why cant you just pay the installments to them personally? Surely thats better for them that having to give you back all the money youve already paid.

I would definitely ask for your money back if you can't pay now. I would also be a little weary of putting the rest down if they are going out of business. You never know when they take your money and run.  It's not your fault they are shutting down in short notice so you should not be expected to pay instantly. I would also talk to other local salons and explain your situation to see if they have advice. They might also be able to get your dress for you.

Honestly, I would lean on the side of trying to get your money back over trying to find a way to get the money to them faster..JMO
  • Or tell them you want all the money you paid back, then when theyre gonna have to sell all their stock go buy it then for way cheaper.

  • You DEFINITELY should not pay them the rest if they're shutting down, they have no obligation to fulfill that contract after they're closed and then they're pocketing the total amount of the dress!  Cut your losses and find the same dress elsewhere.  Regretfully in this economy, that happens a lot.

  • Is it possible to call the designers customer service number and see if you can set up your remaining payments directly to the designers company then have them ship you the dress? It's totally not okay for you to pay the rest since they're shutting down. It's the business's fault, not yours. I'd be very leary about paying the rest knowing they're going out of business.

  • Definitely do not give them any more money. If they filed for bankruptcy any cash they have coming in may have to go straight to their creditors, and the further along in the process the less chance of them having any regard for you getting your dress.
Try to get your money back ASAP.
  • I agree with everyone the more I think about it. Don't pay anymore on this dress. YOu could pay big bucks and get nothing in the end...ccut your losses now..Plead your case to anoter salon in the area..........and threaten them if they won't give your money back now..It's a breach of contract on THEIR part
