Convertible Wrap Dress

Hi ladies.  I am looking to do a convertible wrap dress so that my BMs can each "have their own dress."  Has anyone else done this?  If so, what was the fabric of the dresses?  I'm working with an etsy seller, but I am having trouble figuring out which fabrics would look good and which would look cheap from just a swatch.

Re: Convertible Wrap Dress

  • Try going to the fabric store and feeling the fabrics. Maybe hold the roll up and wrap it around yourself a little to see how you feel about it.
  • I think jersey would be good.  It's easy to drape.

  • I saw a wedding party taking pictures lately, and the BM's dresses were those convertible dresses.  They were so cute that I asked where they got them, and they said Victoria's Secret!  The fabric did not look cheap, and they said they were $80 or $90.  The dress was navy blue, and each BM had it fashioned in a different style, but it still looked like a cohesive look.  So maybe see if the VS dresses will work, or try to use that fabric.  Maybe you can order one dress to see if you like that fabric.

  • Most of the time those styles of dresses are made with a jersey knit type of fabric. It's easy to twist and mold into the different styles. The downside is that depending on your girls' body types, the jersey knit can cling or show every lump and bump or not be as supportive for larger chests, but that doesn't happen to everyone :) GL!

This! These dresses often look great on paper, but not in practice. I'm slim, but have never been flattered by one of these dresses. Would it be easier to just let each girl pick a cocktail dress in your color?
  • Ditto Opalsky....I had it set in my mind that my BM would wear the wrap dress. I found out that Dessy makes one so went to try it on and it showed every lump and bump and I quickly changed my mind. I would suggest having them all try on the Dessy version and see if it is flattering on them before going with this choice.
