Affordable dresses at a typical bridal shop?

My MOH told me her budget for a dress is under $100 if at all possible. Do you think we will have any luck finding something for that budget at a typical bridal shop (besides David's- I would really like to avoid it there)? I am not opposed to department stores or other alternatives, but we do have an appointment at a nice shop and I am just wondering if that price is even possible or if it will be kind of a waste of time (for the workers-- we'll have a blast either way!)

Sometimes they have special sales going on or sample dresses available for purchase, can't hurt to call but agree that it's not worth wasting her time or theirs if she's not going to find anything within her budget at the smaller shop.

To stay in her budget I wouldn't rule out David's Bridal.  So far everything has gone fine with my attendants' dresses purchased there and they have many $99 styles in lots of different colors.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • You may also want to look and then get the manufacturer and style number of the ones you like.  Then you could see what kind of price you can find at Pearl's Place, rkbridals, or one of the other reputable online stores.
  • I'm confused. Is it for BM dresses for YOUR wedding or a bridal dress for HERS?

Alfred Angelo has 4 dresses for $99 and often they have $15 off sales. They have one long satin, one short satin, one long chiffon, and one short chiffon.

Target now carries dresses online and many other places you can look. If it is for her bridal then looking at a BM dress in white or ivory will work.

PS I used to work in a bridal shop and let me tell you if you go in trying on stuff you can't afford be prepared to be put in a fitting room alone. Bridesmaids parties not ready to buy were never given a stylist as that time could be given to a walk in bride or bride appointment or an appointment for maids with a wedding close enough to NEED to order. That staff more often then not works on crappy pay with a commission for sales.

  • If it's like cocktail length then that's definitely within her budget. If it's floor length you're going to have a harder time. I let my girls pick their knee length dresses out though as some paid $40 from a department store and some paid $140 from WHBM for dresse that were black and satin and all looked pretty much the same lol. I'd keep the appiontment so you have that experience and get ideas at least!
  • Honestly if one of my girls had trouble affording a dress - I would offer to the pay the difference.  But that is just me.
  • Is there a reason the dress needs to be from a typical bridal shop?

My bridesmaids got their dresses for 70 bucks at modcloth.  They're adorable and they'll actually be able to wear them again. for reals.

Not sure why you want to avoid Davids, but I could understand it if you had a bad experience with them in the past.  A lot of women on here have mentioned target, Jcrew, and other dept stores.

  • Thanks everyone! Sorry for the misunderstanding-- my MOH is going with me to try on bridesmaid dresses for MY wedding.

I don't care where the dress comes from (although I have had bad experiences with David's in the past, and I don't like how they call all the time to bug me), i just happened to make an appointment somewhere that worked for everyone's schedule and none of us are sure what kind of prices to expect. I am open to paying the difference or looking elsewhere if needed. Thanks for the advice!
