Ever heard of these?

http://www.phoebebridal.com/alfred-angelo-disney-fairy-tale-weddings-style-206-wedding-dres-p-1599.html Phoebe Bridal or

Morily Bridal.

I have never heard of either one, although Phoebe is based out of China. I can't find where Morily is based. Either way, they both seem too good to be true (which probably means it is), however, if the dress even remotely resembled the Alfred Angelo dress, it would be worth it to me, seeing as I am on such a tight budget as it is. Has anyone ever heard of these companies, or had experience using an overseas dressmaker? Any advice would be oh-so-appreciated!

Quick Edit: I am fully aware that this is a knock off site, but I'm broke and desparate =(

  • A lot of people have had really bad experiences with these knock-off sites from China. When the dresses arrive (if they arrive at all), they are cheaply made, or they're damaged.

I definitely understand being on a tight budget! Wait for sales at David's Bridal or other bridal salons. Also shop at "non-bridal" stores - some department stores and other retailers have a wedding dress section on their websites.

I definitely would not order my dress from one of these sites. You'll probably just be disappointed :(

    Good luck!

There have been some horror stories and some success stories posted on here about ordering dresses from China.  If you're already strapped for cash, do you really want to risk spending the money and not ending up with the right dress (or any dress at all)?

Like Melissa said, check out sales at David's Bridal or department stores for lower priced options.  You also might want to check out bridal consignment stores--I went to one in my area that was awesome.  Your local board might have good ideas about some less-well-known stores in your area that carry discounted wedding dresses, too.

    Good luck!
  • Oh! And also check sites like craigslist, ebay, and even the classifieds here on TK! People are ALWAYS selling wedding dresses (only worn once!). Sometimes they're even brand new dresses.

  • I tried on that dress in Alfred Angelo.  The details are very intricate.  I don't think a knock off would look half as good.

buy your dress secondhand.  it will be better quality and look better than a cheap knockoff

  • i just posted this elsewhere but one of my girlfriends did this and her wedding dress was $149.  it looked great in the pictures but the fit was atrocious and she couldn't find a local seamstress to touch it for alterations since it was so cheaply made.  she ended up buying a 2nd reception dress for comfort.  all in all it worked out fine for her but....i'd be nervous.

ditto pp's about consignment or preowned.  also consider ordering a long bridesmaid dress in white or ivory, like this jim hjelm.  my bridal shop had this style for around $250, and it's actually silk taffeta, whereas a lot of the bridal gowns at davids are polyester taffeta:

  • right now a lot of department store have white gowns.  dillards has a large section currently.

Davids:  it's the Wal-mart of wedding dresses.  get on their email list to watch the sales

re-sale stores:  about half of the dresses i saw at re-sale stores still had their tags and were in their original bag.

I agree with PP -- I've heard some nightmare stories about ordering dresses from China.  To offer alternatives, though ...

Have you tried a consignment shop?  There should be a handful in the DFW area.  What about Goodwill?  Also, try eBay.  Don't give up!  Oh!  You may want to check the local DFW board -- someone may have a dress she's ready to sell.

    Good luck!
  • I wouldn't do it!! Go to David's Bridal and get a sale dress..that way you know what you're getting  ad it's still a great deal.

  • I agree with PP that you should try the wedding classifieds board, I've seen quite a few dreses put up for sale in the last couple weeks.  Also, try these sites which had good reviews on weddingbee.  GL!
