Gift Opening Attire

In NE wisconsin (I'm not sure about elsewhere) it's VERY cutsomary for the bride and groom to have a gift-opening the morning after the wedding.  The event is open to anyone but usually only family and a few friends/bridal party show up.  In the past I've seen anything from jeans and t-shirts (for the more hungover) to cocktail dresses.

Has anyone else been to a gift-opening the morning after like this and have suggestions on what to wear?

Our wedding is a pretty typical classy but not black-tie fall wedding...

  • I think you would be safe wearing a cute dress. Who hosts it? the bride and groom? I would think since you are the bride and groom, anything you wear would be fine

  • My friends got married 2 years ago and they had a very formal wedding. Men in black suits and ladies in mostly black or dark grey. They had a gift opening thing the next day and it was very relaxed and fun. We all just came in something comfy. It was warm, so shorts, tank top, whatever you wanted. Had some drinks and played bad mitton as well! I guess it depends on your group of people.
  • Thanks Ladies.  Ash- to answer your question, it's usually "hosted" at the hotel the morning after with a light breakfast provided by the bride's family (unless the hotel has breakfast).  The MOH generally sits up at the head table with the couple and takes notes/inventory for thank you cards later. :)

  • if its a more 'formal' type event (buffet sort of breakfast) then go with a cute sundress, or skirt/top combo....or even dressy shorts and top.

if it's a more 'bagels and cream cheese on the counter and juice from the fridge' type morning, then comfy is fine!

we don't really do 'gift opening' as an event here, but since we have a HUGE family, we'll probably have an afternoon cookout type event at a family member's house just to hang out and be together...and i'd probably go a TINY bit dressed up, just to look cute and continue my "bride" status for just a day longer =)
  • Just curious... so do you have a bridal shower and morning after gift opening?
  • Most couples have both.  The bridal shower is months before the wedding (we're not having one because we live in TX and our families are in WI and GA so it doesnt make sence).  The gift opening is the morning after where you open all the presents people bring to the reception.
