To wear a veil?

I am truly torn if I should wear a veil or not.  I'm getting married on the beach, but my dress is still a fairly traditional dress.  I can't decide if I want a veil or not.  I was hoping to hear from other girls as to why they are or why they aren't wearing a veil.  As you can tell, I'm very indecisive!  Thanks!

Re: To wear a veil?

  • I wore a veil but I never thought to not wear one.  This will be the only time that it will be acceptable to wear one and you can take it off right after the ceremony.

I did a birdcage, so it was small and not something that got in the way. Like Jagore08 said, you can take it off right after the ceremony.

  • I'm considering  not  wearing a  veil as  well, and  opting  more  for decorated  clip,  feather, or  flowers.  I've  even  seen some  really  gorgeous  headbands.  So  many  options!
  • I'm doing a shoulder length veil that will be attached under my updo.  I get the best of both world, wear a veil cause I want to, but out of my way and I can keep it on all night.

  • I considered wearing a single layer elbow or fingertip veil for the ceremony only and a flower for the reception.  When I was ordering my dress, veils with the ribbon around the edge or rhinestones throughout were the most popular by far and they are very much NMS.  I liked one that had very intricate beading on the edge and another that had a pearl beaded edge, but not the prices.  At most I would have paid for a cut edge veil from a very cheap seller.

I ended up deciding that a veil was not worth it to me, other than the 2 I loved I really only would have gotten it because DH wanted me to wear a veil, and he became much less attached to that idea when he realized a veil wasn't a necessity.  I wore a silk hair flower instead and have no regrets.  PIB.
  • I was never really interested in a veil.  I wore a hat.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Kind of depends on the dress. Some dresses don't look good with veils IMO. I'm not sure if I'm doing a veil because I don't have my dress yet. I will probably just do a flower in my hair.

  • my dress looks better without a veil. it's a simple halter, very old hollywood 30's and a veil woudn't work for me, I say look at your dress and see it a veil matches your dress design, alot of beach brides do a flower like a tropical orchid or something, so it's idea to consider
  • I'm considering wearing a veil-- as my stylist points out, it's the only time and I may regret it if I don't. That being said, I'm not going to make a desicion on what i'm wearing until I have my hair done in a trial, then tiara/veil, or combo with my dress on. That would be my suggestion-- do your hair, put on your dress, and play around will all sorts of ideas. Also, consider how your wearing your hair-- up, down, or combo. Lots of things to consider!

  • I said from the beginning I didn't want to wear a veil because I knew that I wouldn't put it over my face so to me there was no point.  And now there are so many different options I definitely don't think its necessary.  I am wearing a headband that has pearls and crystals on it that almost perfectly matches the beaded belt on my dress.  The headband is on metal wiring then has white ribbon that comes down and ties behind my head.  I love how it looks.  It was not cheap, but it was similar to the veil prices I have seen, and this is something I will wear all day and night.  I don't hate the look of veils, but I have a pretty simple dress so I would be afraid that after I took the veil off I would look to plain.  With my headband I will have it on all night and stay fancy I guess.

  • I definitely didn't want a veil at all - until I went dress shopping. When I found the dress she put on a tiara and veil to see how it looked and I just fell in love with it.

Although not wearing a veil is no big deal, there are plenty of beauiful things they can do with your hair. My hair is short and I was just planning to have a couple of pretty flower pins before I found the veil.

  • Oh I will wear a veil of course! There is no other time when you will get to wear one, like someone else said lol. Maybe you can just wear one for the ceremony and then take some pictures and then you can take it off and you can have more pictures without it so you get to have it both ways but you don't want to look back some day and think oh I wish I wore a veil!

  • I will be wearing a cathedral length veil.  There is something very magical and bride-like when you put on a veil.  Seing my dress with the veil made me feel like a bride instead of just a girl in a pretty dress.  Try on some different ones with your dress.  If you like one, wear it.  If you don't like the way you feel, then don't.  Best of luck!
