WP attire

If I'm wearing a long dress do my BM (and MOH) need to be wearing long as well or can they do tea lenth etc?  I've only been to a few weddings and I can't remember if the dress lengths matched etc.  Would it look wierd for me to be in a semi-traditional/formal dress and them in shorter ones?

Re: WP attire

  • Well, most wedding dresses are long, and short BM dresses are common...
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I think it is completely OK for the BM's to wear shorter dresses than what the length of your dress is. If yours is a more on the formal side, just make sure the design is bit more formal and the fabric is too (think cocktail dress and not sundress). I am having a tea-length dress and my BM's will more than likely have above the knee. If you do above the knee your BM's will thank you too b/c they likely won't have to pay for hemming alterations, tea-length you have to be more careful on though they likely will if any of them are short.
  • The only thing I would recommend against is BMs in long formal dresses if the bride is in a white cocktail dress.
  • Yes its fine and pretty common, especially for summer weddings.  I'm in a full length ball gown style dress, and my girls are in knee length cocktail dresses.  It never once crossed my mind that it wouldn't look right, and you shouldn't worry about it either.

  • I don't think it's a problem because 99% of bride's dress are long and 80% of BM dresses are shorter than the bride's. I'm planning on an afternoon wedding and my BM will be in knee or tea length dresses and my dress goes to the floor-- I'm so excited-- so I would see what looks best on your girls and look at time for any other help. Is the wedding at noon or 8 pm, earlier weddings typically have shorter BM dresses and evening (formal) typically have longer-- but it ultimatly comes down to you and your girls.
