To dry clean or not to dry clean

I recently bought a wedding gown off the sample rack and there are a few stains that need to be cleaned. The woman at the store was vehement about not dry cleaning the dress before the wedding, because she said it will shrink. Has anyone had that experience?

  • I've never had an item I've dry cleaned shrink. Did the shop give you any suggestions on how to clean the stains? Will they take it back if they don't come out?

I'd post on your local board for area dry cleaners who do wedding gowns in your area and call them up and ask...I've never heard this.

<div>I don't know anything about it shrinking, but I would be concerned that they are willing to sell you a dirty dress. I didn't want to buy a dress off the sample rack because most of them had something wrong with them. My bridal shop told me that they would fix any imperfections so that it would look new. I wound up buying a dress off the sample rack, even though some of the beading and embroidery had come undone. When I went to my first fitting, you couldn't even tell the dress wasn't brand new because they had fixed everything perfectly. I imagine they would have cleaned any stains if there were any also. I don't see why this store isn't willing to fix it or at least help you to figure out how to do it. Do they want you to wear a stained dress?</div>
