What would you do?

I live in Florida but wedding is in Indiana. I ordered my dress from a salon in Indiana and have plans to keep it there for alterations and until the wedding. We plan on flying and I do not want to travel with the gown. Freaks me out!!

Here is were I am getting nervous. Wedding is October 2, dress comes in mid June and we are not able to get to Indiana until August. After our August trip we will not be arriving in Indiana until two days before wedding.

I already know the dress will need alterations. I am 5'2 and very petite. My fear is not trying the dress on after alterations until the day before the wedding.

How many fittings did or will  you have? Any suggestions? This is the only thing I have found myself stressing over and it has nearly landed me into a panic attack. (little crazy I know)

  • Usually your first fitting is 3 months out, then 1 month out, then a week out. As long as your dress shop knows your situation, and can make the bulk of your alterations when you go in August, I'm sure it will work out.

  • I'm in a similar situation.  I'm getting my alterations done by the owner of the dress shop.  I was told that if necessary, I could go in on a Friday evening for a fitting, Saturday I could do the second fitting, and have it done by Sunday.  Granted, my dress doesn't need to be hemmed.  They said not to do it any more than 3 months out.  She also said that 5 pounds give or take wouldn't alter the fit of the dress (A-line).  I've been the same weight (+/- 1.5 lb) for 2 years, so I'm not worried.
  • How long will you be in Indiana?  If you do not have to have a lot of alterations, see if you can have your 1st meeting the 1st day or 2 you are in Indiana, then another fitting or two while you are there.  Then have your final fitting as soon as you get back before your wedding.
If you are against this or have major alterations, you can always get a garmet bag and travel with your dress that way.  Keep it as your carry-on.
