In knots over the dress selection

So... I've been telling myself not to ask for opinions and to go with my gut, but I am in KNOTS over the dress.  I tried on a few dresses and narrowed it down to two: one is an a-line the other is trumpet or fit and flare (La Sposa Fanal). I love them both and am leaning toward the La Sposa Fanal, but I'm a little bit disallusioned by a couple of things. (1) when I do a search, there are tons of people who have worn this dress already. (2) the people who have purchased it LOVE the dress, but ... um... I dunno...

The other dress has a bigger skirt (I don't know the right terms) than I originally pictured, but I feel like it fits me nicely,

Now... when I originally tried on the LaSposa, the sample was a little small for me, but I went to another shop, and they had my size (in the hips but the bodice was too big). I only have a pic from the first shop (went to the second shop alone).

So, I'm posting a pic and I hope it doesn't offend because you can see my blue panties in the mirror...  Let me know what you think.  I hesitate to post the pic of the other dress because I feel like it'll confuse the issue...

  • It's a gorgeous dress and looks beautiful on you, but without seeing the other on you, it's hard to give you an opinion between the two.

  • edielaura - that'a a good point. What I left out is that the dress has been out for a long time (I think it's 2009 or 2010 collection), but I guess the good news there is that it is withstanding the test of time :)

xobride - here's the other pic. I post this mirror pic because you can  see front and back although the back is bustled. I think I'm turning into a bridezilla...

  • If wanting your wedding to be perfect makes you a bridezilla, then we all are :)

I personally think the first one flatters you the most.  I wouldn't be at all worried about other people having worn it a lot before you.  Your wedding isn't like a ball where no one wants to run into someone else wearing her dress (and even worse, looking better in it!).  Other brides may have worn this dress before you, but none of them ARE you.  You'll have your own hairdo, jewelry, colors, veil, etc and I can guarantee you won't run into anyone else wearing it that day :)

  • I can see why you are torn.  Both dresses look great on you.  I think I like the second better, but probably because it reminds me of my dress just a little.  Either dress would be a great choice.  As others have mentioned, there will be other people that have worn the same dress, so if you really love the first one don't let the fact that it has been out for awhile stop you.

<div>You guys make me smile.  Yep... it's a tough choice. It seems like universally people like the second dress where as there are tons of mixed opinions about the first. I definitely feel like in the first dress, I will be needing to work out (at least to get that other butt cheek in - j/k), but I love that I'm curvy and it shows it off :) </div>
  • If you want to workout, go for it, but if you love your curves just the way they are, then get the dress in the size that fits your rump and get the top altered.

  • If you like the way the first one hugs your curves, then go for it! That's why I chose the one I went with. I wanted to look womanly on my wedding day, not girlish. Like PPs said, it really doesn't matter if other people have your dress. The chance of anyone at your wedding recognizing it as a dress someone else wore is so incredibly slim. Even so, girls wear dresses differently all the time! I loved doing a google image search for my dress and seeing how different girls wore it. They were all different!
  • Oh... I'm gonna do both. I found the dress in another store and tried on the sample in the size that fits my hips... but I still want to work out so that my back and arms look stellar!!

  • Breaness, do you have pics of your dress? I just like looking at them. The crazy thing is that my friend was far more excited about dress shopping than I was, and now I'm all in this conundrum!!

I've checked out some others in the dress and the one thing that I know is that I want the oyster color and not the white/ivory variety. This is definitely a different type of flavor.

I just kept thinking that my groom would be far more wowed by me in this one than the other. I'm talking myself into it more and more. Darn, why aren't bridal shops open on Monday?

I totally hear ya!  My FI has us on this diet by Dr. Gundry that's supposed to lower your blood sugar and decrease body fat.  It's a pain, but I just keep thinking of how awesome I'll look in my dress and the bikini on our honeymoon :)

  • xo, that is SO cool. You're going to look amazing! I'm just doing weight watchers :) I see that you're also a July bride too!
  • We're just a week away on our dates.  We're doing a civil ceremony at the end of March so I only have till the end of February to lose the rest of my weight and then I have to find a shop that has my civil ceremony dress in stock.  Right now, I'm probably going to have to drive 200 miles, but at least this one I'll be able to wear again. :)

  • I love the first one! You look fantastic in both, though.
  • mejai - which dress do you think about the most?
  • I definitely think about the first one more... From the start :) So guess what? It's the one.

xo - wow it's happening fast, huh? No way I would be in wedding shape that soon, but you're going to be stunning with your Dr. Gundry diet!!! Have you picked out your Civil Ceremony dress yet?
