Used Wedding Dress- When to start alterations?

Hi ladies~ I have a used dress and am unsure when I should go in for alterations. Do you know how far in advance I am supposed to go in?

My wedding is in may. I found an independent seamstress( not affiliated with a bridal salon) who told me to come in later this month. She gets very busy in the spring and said i should get the initial round of alterations over with sooner rather than later. My plan is to see her once in jan, Once in Feb, and then late march/early april and be done!
If you're wedding is in the summer/fall you can probably wait until about a month and a half to begin.

Thank you for the advice! My wedding is in May as well so I better get started. I had no idea I would be going in so often like you are planning to do. I'm making the call now for an appt.
