To belt, or not to belt?

Hi all,
My wedding dress is a Liancarlo 4848 (link at bottom, I hope it works). I am trying to figure out if I should be belting it or not. Got the call yesterday that my dress is in! I've been so busy that I've barely thought about my wedding look -- time to get back into it, as the wedding is in just over 3 months!

Any thoughts on belting, or recommendations? I don't want to be too blinged out.

ETA: I wouldn't add a colored belt - ivory to match the dress. Thanks! :)

Re: To belt, or not to belt?

  • I voted not sure.  Because I really think it depends on the belt and the other accessories you are going to be wearing.  I think if you did one with crystals or beads it would look nice but I'm not so sure a solid color would look as good, KWIM?

I think a belt would cut the line of the dress, so I vote no.
  • I said IDK. I think a plain ivory belt won't look good. If you added a blingy belt, maybe.

  • Agree with PP, the belt would create an awkward line and wont flow nicely into the ruffles. No belt. Beautiful dress as is :)

  • If you are tall, then I would say yes, but if you are short, like me, than I agree that it'd cut the dress in half and that would make you look shorter.

  • A thicker sparkly belt, I think, would look great. I tried on a dress like this and added and belt and loved it. As long as the belt doesn't have all kinds of stuff on it it would be okay with the bottom. If you're going to add an ivory one, I wouldn't even bother. You should go try some belts on with the dress.
  • I agree with Peavy that a belt would cut the lovely line of the dress.

  • Sounds like I'm in the minority, I said no because I think it has a lot going on at the bottom and the neckline has some bling around it.  But like another poster said, if your jewelry is minimal enough it might not be so bad, can you go back to the salon and try it on with some belts and THEN decide?  It's hard to tell without seeing pics, but my first thought is No.
  • I voted no. I think there's already so much going on with the dress that a belt would be a bit too much and take away from the beauty of it.

  • I LOVE your dress!! The ruffles are gorgeous and if I look close there is some little blingy things at the sweetheart?

I belted my dress, it's a mermaid similar to yours but it doesn't have ruffles, just flares. I think because yours has the ruffles, it would just take away! Add some great jewelry pieces and you'll blow him away. ;)

  • Thank you so much for all the kind comments! Very helpful.
  • I think a lightly embellished belt would look good with this dress.  I agree with the height comment, though.  If you are short, I'd probably skip it.  If you have a long torso, I think it would accentuate the shape of the dress.

  • I'm about 5'4" so I'm pretty short- BUT I have an extraordinarily long torso and short legs.
