14k White Gold versus 18k White Gold

My ring is 18k white gold, but due to some unforseen expenses, we are thinking of having our wedding bands made in 14k white gold. I know for yellow gold, the 10k vs 14k vs 18k has a slightly different hue, but I'm wondering if this is the case for white gold?

I've looked online, and I can't seem to find anything about white gold "colors" in particular. It seems to me that because of the coating process, all karat levels of white gold will look the same, but I was wondering if anyone knew this for sure?

Thanks!

  • I would listen to firstimersluck. My mom has a ring that is 18K gold and after 2 years it has worn so thin it's about to break!

  • They wear different, so the 14k is harder and if you wear it with your e-ring (18k) then the rubbing against the e-ring will wear the gold down much faster (on the 18k e-ring). So if you do get the two different k I would recommend having them soldered if you plan to wear them together all the time.
