Wedding Dress Dilemma!

Ok. I ordered my wedding dress back in January for my October wedding. The bridal salon said it would be in the middle of June. So mid June passes and we start into July, so I decided to call and just check on it. They said it would be here either July 11th or 12th. Still no word and of course when I call the phone rings and rings and no way to leave a message. I am just getting worried because it's a month after they told me my dress should be here and I still need to get alterations. Has anyone ran into any similar problems?? I need a fellow bride to calm me down!

  • They are quite a drive from me and the problem is I'm always working so when I can get there, they wouldn't be open anyways. I am just kind of worried about it... and of course I decide to read the reviews on the bridal boutique on theweddingchannel.com and some are really bad, so I panic a bit.

    This was my first thought. I would be driving there and find out what is up.

    It may be best at this time to talk to them in person anyway, this way they cant give you the run around.

  • i had a similar situation. i ordered end of november, i called a couple weeks later to make sure it had been ordered and they said may 25 ship date. then it was june and i didnt hear anything. i called to see if it came and they told me it was actually set to ship that day, so 2 weeks later i got a call saying it was in. so in short, i would say dont worry quite yet. im sure its common for the date to get pushed back. i know what you mean about reading reviews, its scary sometimes! but honestly some people only write reviews when they are really upset, so youre not likely to have someone go through the trouble to write a review to just say, "everything worked out fine". good luck!

  • Yeah that's true. When I didnt hear from them last Wednesday, I called to check to see if it was in yet like they said and she said "No, we will call you"... and that was it. I want to ask them for a tracking number if it's not in. I don't get it... if you say it's going to be in at a certain time... then it should be and if it's not, you should be on the phone calling me to let me know. Call me crazy.

    Ok, so everything worked out good for you with yours? That gives me a hope. I just hate that there is such a lack of communication.

  • Could your mom or someone else drive down to check?

    I was told my dress would be in in the beginning of May and it ended up coming in mid-June.  Depending on your designer, times vary for production and you should also consider shipping times and the time it takes to clear customs.  I wouldn't panic just yet because you do have some time, but I would get someone to drive over to the salon and check on the situation.

    If this is the case I would wait a day or 2 and try and call again. And stop reading reviews, they will only add to your angst.

    If in a few days you dont get an answer then I would try and figure out how to get down there and find out what's going on.

  • I would probably wait until this Thursday or Friday and then make a plan to go over there first thing Saturday if they havent' called you or your can't get through.   The lack of answering the phone would be freaking me out.
  • Good ideas. I will see if I can make a trip out there on a lunch break. I understand shipping times and the designer and all those other things, but why tell me a specific day it's supposed to be here? That's what is annoying.

    Yeah, that's what's frustrating. They are supposed to be open Monday- Saturday... This is the 3rd time that they haven't answered the phone on one of those days.

    I agree... it's not unusual for it to be delayed some.... but, I think the lack of contact/answering the phone would be freaking me out.

    Me too... my dress was scheduled to come in at the end of May and I got it at the end of June.  It could be because your wedding isn't until October; the manufacturer will put earlier weddings ahead of you in the production line.  So don't worry just yet... maybe they only have 1 or 2 consultants there during the week and can't answer the phone.

  • I would make the time to stop in and visit them.  I'd be concerned that they weren't answering the phone.
  • Don't worry too much. I actually saw that my mom's dress had come in online and they told me to take my time coming in because this is thier busy season (my wedding is in November) and they were just trying to get through the summer rush before they would start her alterations. This is probably the case for your salon too. I'd give them another week or so and then take a drive down if you can't get a hold of anyone.

  • Definitely drive by and check. I work at a bridal store and we have been having dresses arrive later than the estimated ship date because of the fires in Colorado and the bad weather conditions on the East Coast. When stuff like that happens it pushes back shipping and alot of the shipping companies get behind. 

    But still, I would definitely drive by--try to make time. Very important! Or designate someone to go for you--like your mom or a bridesmaid.

    Figured I would update all of you on the situation. I drove by the Bridal Store and it was completely gutted. The owners closed the shop and took off out of town. They left handfuls of brides without dresses and grooms without tuxes. I am in the process of pressing charges with a long list of people, with our local law enforcement. The story was even on our local news station last night. I have an amazing bridal store right now helping me find out information from the designers rep, to see if A. they can locate the dress or B. if it was ever even ordered. It's been a HORRIBLE few days.
