XP: Opinions: To Veil or Not To Veil?!

Ok, a little background: my FI and I were originally marrying last May, at a waterside Country Club. I bought my gown, headband and veil in April 2008.  We postponed the wedding in December 2008 but now we are eloping to PA, at a location with significance for our relationship. The ceremony will be by a lake, and it will only be us and my parents. Had I known in advance that we'd end up marrying this way, this is not the dress I would have picked out, but $1400 later, I am wearing it anyway. That said, I have a fingertip-length veil with scalloped edges that I would have worn last year. Do I wear it for the lakeside ceremony/elopement, or skip the veil altogether?

I'm going a little nutty over this because it is a planned elopement and our studio is honoring our previous credit by coming to PA to take pics, so at least we will still have a pro-album.

I attached a pic of the dress and headband, so you can give me opinions on wearing a veil. This is the sample of my dress. I didn't think to take a pic at my fitting last week. GRRRR!

The flower will sit on the right side of my head:

  • Ditto above, LOVE dress and the headband, don't cover it up! You are beautiful!

  • *Big cheesy smile* Thanks so much! I need to get better pics of my gown. The lace flowers in the dress match the headband as if it was made just for that!

  • I think everyone is in agreement! No need for veil! Too bad you already bought it. It would look nice for pictures, plus ur man might be fantasizing about it. If not, maybe just do some pictures with it. I know I wouldn't want to fuss with it... So where did you find the head band? I'm looking for floral hair accesories... not headbands though.
  • The veil and headband were free of charge and came from the salon where I bought my gown. It is in NYC (the Bronx). If you want the info let me know. They do not have a web site. LOL @ my man fantasizing about it. I don't think he even knows that brides wear a vei!l LOL

I'm pretty sure, after reading the replies and giving it some thought, that the veil is out! Even my Mom voted against the veil once she saw the headband in person. (with the dress).
