I recently got my engagement ring resized and now my ring finger hurts!

I recently got my engagement ring resized to fit my finger, but i noticed after only a few days of wearing it I took it off and my fingerfeels like the ring is still on it, and it is sore. I am assuming this is because this is the first time I am ever wearing a ring on my finger, also the ring does leave marks on my skin which makes me wonder because it is a thick band if i should resize it up. Any advice would be welcome become it is just wierd this happening after i just got my ring and still my ring feels very tight like it is still on there.

It sounds like maybe you got a size too small.

I would give it a few more weeks to see if maybe your finger just needs to get used to wearing jewelry.

so should i keep wearing the ring because I have taken it off since I was so unsure. I am it comes off easily and on easily. sorry if i sound silly, but I never wear jewelry, so I don't know what to expect.
  • Or you could take it back to the jeweler and ask them if it needs to be resized again.

  • I'd have it resized.  No sense being in pain!
  • Just go to the jeweler and see what they think. If it's squeezing your skin but it's easy to get on and off, that is strange. Do you know if you're allergic to any types of metals?

  • i agree that you should ask the jewler what they suggest...although, i'd imagine they sized your finger properly the first time!
sometimes my fingers swell depending on the air temperature (weird, i know) so my ring will get stuck becuase my finger has swollen around it.
  • I also have fingers that swell and are pretty sensitive to heat/cold. I'd go back and get it re-sized, especially if the band on your ring is larger than the bands they use for sizing. My jeweler recommended that it not fit skin tight to your hand just in case.

  • I will have to see then because maybe i was just swollen or something or maybe it was from sleeping on it . I will prob go back to the jeweler in about a week or 2 to see if I need it resized.I just wanna make sure first that it isn't just me not being used to the ring.  It does have a thick band. I know when I got a 10k white gold ring it bothered my finger, but this one is 14k gold and I have had earrings that were 14k gold and had no issue, so I don't think im allergic to that. Also thank you for all the responses.
  • Beautiful, beautiful ring! Good luck!
  • It is a really pretty ring, and it definitely looks too tight in the picture. I can usually tell if my hands are swollen before I even put on rings, if your hands don't feel like they're swollen without the ring on, I'd say it just didn't get sized high enough. You want something that's tight over your knuckles but a little loose on your finger, just not so loose it spins.
