Camo themed wedding? (My first post here)

Anyone doing one?seen one done? Ideas? We are both bow hunters as well as competition target shooters. I know it sounds a little (or maybe a lot) redneck but it is very fitting for my FI and I plus our families.

  • I haven't seen any but I think as long as it's subtle it should be fine.  If it's what you want, you should do it.  Be warned, mine will probably be the only post that says that :)

Oh I'm not worried too much about getting bashed for it. We are a little different. I am a piercer/tattoo shop manager and my FI is a truck driver. We're an odd couple and the type of people who tend to go against the grain. I'm a good ol' country girl from the heart of NC. Camo is an everyday thing around here. Just wondering there was anyone else out there who had done it and ideas on it.

  • I saw a camo sash and camo cumberbund/tie for a little...and I have been told you can go for a whole bride dress in camo if that is really what you desire. I've only run across what I saw at a DB and MW - but I have a friend in Houston and her daughter wants a whole dress in camo and said she found one

The pictures I have seen of camo weddings are horribly tacky.  I guess it depends on how you want your wedding to look.   Beautiful, in a grand ballroom somewhere, classy?   Casual, outdoors, very low key?      It just depends on what your vision is.
  • PS. If you google "Camo themed wedding", you'll come up with hundreds of images.  So, it's been done often.
  • I found this dress that I love but I want bright pink accents because this isn't my first wedding so I'm not too into wearing the traditional white dress.

I also found a short dress that I like and our date is June 1st but I'm not sure about wearing a shorter dress!

Honestly, if you love that dress... I wouldn't be too worried about the informality of a short dress.

Wow, didn't realize there were so many camo wedding dress options!  I was thinking just the groom, ie vest/tie.  Who knew!

  • It weirds me out that on the website you posted, the models for the wedding gowns are about 16 years old.

But beyond that, this is one of those times when "It's your wedding" is an acceptable response. Your dress and decor (in general) won't have any bearing on your guests' comfort, so really, what you want is up to you. Camo is personally NMS, so my opinion won't be very helpful either way.

I will say that I consider camo to be a casual clothing thing, so I find it a little different to see it on a very formal wedding gown. I think if I were to ever do a camo wedding, I would probably weave it in here and there in little pieces (like the groom's tie or on the cake or something) rather than wearing a camo dress. But again, it's totally up to you.

I actually agree with this completely.  If it fits your personality I say go for it, but I would also keep it subtle with small touches here and there.

But, hey, if you want to go all out and have camo everywhere more power to you.

  • The dress is pretty, but what about a camo belt or sash instead? You could get something that really more flatters your frame and still has the colors you want.

There seem to be lots of options, so I'm sure you'll find something that suits your style.

  • I was gonna go with a camo dress for the longest time...I'm glad you're a mossy oak fan! I have seen a wedding where the groomsmen had camo vests, I didn't think it was tacky at all. I always wanted a white dress though so that won out in the end. I also thought about doing a camo garter there are some cute ones on etsy like this one:

Also you could do a lodge type theme with pine trees, lanterns, animal shillouettes and you could even incorporate the targets. By the sounds of it you dont shoot so instead of the shells you could use the arrow feathers like in this picture

Good ideas! I had a white dress for my first wedding so I think something different would be awesome and my FI is all for it. He is wearing a camo vest and the groomsmen are wearing camo ties. No jackets, just white shirts and brown dress pants. We are planning on having it at a local place that has a pond and lodge. Lanterns would be cool! We target shoot and hunt with guns too but love bow hunting. Thanks for your input!

  • Well, being from Kentucky, I have seen camo prom dresses.  I say go for it since it fits you and your FI.  I am all about the subtle hints though.  Someone earlier suggested sashes and such that were camo....now that sounds like a really good idea.

  • Our wedding is going to be more country/western, but the FH wanted camo somewhere on him (plus he wanted to show off that I'm not a bridezilla like his buddies' wives/future wives are).  We are still throwing around ideas, but I think what we might do is have a camo vest with a jacket overtop.  I think with camo you either have to go all in or extremely subtle.  I think if a few things "here and there" are camo, it can possibly make the rest of the wedding look a little, not so good. But in the end, do what makes you and your FH happy as long as it is not at the expense of your guests/party's happiness.

  • FI is BIG into camping/hunting/fishing/shooting it if he can.

We have a few small touches of camo in our wedding. The groom's cake is a large cupcake that is airbrushed camo. Our cake topper are moose (since it is moose season) with a little sign that says 'we interrupt this hunting season, to bring you a wedding'. The groom's men are all hunters as well and they are getting engraved buck knives.

    oh and this

Thanks for all the input. Love the engraved knife idea. FI groomsmen would LOVE that.
