Off The Rack BM Dresses?

I have chosen my bridal gown (Essense of Australia D1042) and have been looking at BM dresses for several months too. FI and I know what color we would like - a light green color - and one BM and myself have found several we like thru After Six (in "apple slice") and some other designers.

I realize I haven't had the budget conversation with my BMs tho, and am most concerned about my MOH's budget. Most dresses we like have been around $200. I know that's a lot of money, especially for a dress you likely wear only once. I have been emailing pictures and sent pricing info to MOH and my other BM (both in diff states) and haven't heard any concern about budget, but I know it's there. I want to be fair and make them happy too. I want them to look great and feel comfortable, and not stressed out over the money part of it.

So...obviously I still need to have the money conversation with my MOH, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for certain designers or even off the rack stores that carry nicer dresses? I know David's Bridal - and there's one chiffon dress that looks OK, but I'm not a super fan. David's Bridal aside, is it easy/realistic to find BM dresses for less than $200?

Thank you, ladies!

  • Aflred Angelo is okay (along the same lines as DB, maybe a teensy bit nicer though).  You might also look at some JCrew dresses, Macy's, etc.

Can you look at used bridesmaid dresses?  There are lots of sites that sell them.  If you are close to Rochester, MN there is a bridal consignment shop.  Craigstlist.  Recycle Bride.com ect. There might be some bridal consignment shops in IA.  There are a couple in the twin cities if you are up in that region.

PM if you want any details.  GL!
  • I second Alfred Angelo.  they are nicer than DB, but cheaper than some of the other designers.   You could also try some Mori Lee.  Some ML dresses are budget friendly, depending on the style.
  • I'm open to used, but not sure how my BMs feel. Plus I think we want them to match, which might be hard to find thru individual sellers. I'm in eastern Iowa so not near MN, but thanks for the idea! Have you tried recyclebride.com before?

There are some cute Alfred Angelo ones and the pistachio color might work. I'll check pricing and def have to check out Mori Lee too. Thanks, ladies!

  • We ordered Alfred Angelo dresses and I think the most expensive dress that we got was $165. Everyone picked their own style out in the same color. However, I noticed that the dresses seemed to run big in the chest area and everyone of my maids who was not well endowed had to have alterations. My sister's alterations were $50! So keep that in mind also when picking out dresses that alterations will also factor into the cost!

  • We had a great experience saving money (about $40 each) on BM dresses from a brick-and-mortar shop in FL that also offers online orders.  They carry the After Six line, too.  Here's a link to that collection:  http://www.victoriasbridalcouture.com/catalog_c247958.html.  Maybe you'll find the styles you've liked.  (BTW, "apple slice" looks like a really nice shade of light green--that can be a hard shade to find that's not too mossy or yellow).

  • i got mine in Pistachio from here. http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-br179.html  The girls would've paid almost 200 per dress at the bridal shop but got the same exact thing on their site for 103 per dress. They were happy. Good Luck!!
