I have way too many bridesmaids to know how to dress them all!

Hi Ladies!

I am planning a somewhat formal (but not too stiff) wedding for my love and I. Classic. Pretty. Romantic. Meaningful. Anyway.
I've chosen wine-inspired colors for our wedding, deep reds and purples. My dress will be in ivory, and I've been thinking of putting the men in a tan-ish gray.

This is my dress ...and my idea for the Groom's attire.

The problem is, I have way too many important girls to know how to dress them all! Both my fiance and I have children from our first marriages. I want all of our children to have a special place in this wedding. This is their wedding, too, in a way. The day we commit to being family.

I have a 3 year old daughter, and I plan on putting her in an ivory dress as beautiful as mine, but for tots. So cute! (Not this exact one but a similar idea)
My fiance has two beautiful young adult daughters from his first marriage. These are the dresses I am thinking about putting his daughters in (the models even kind of look like them lol):

And THEN I have four sisters as well! And then there's my BFF, and then my fiance has two sisters as well, and a sister-in-law who might as well be a sister to both of us.

What do I put THEM in!? Short purple and red dresses? Long black dresses? Short black dresses? Does it look silly to have some girls in short and some girls in long? Would it be too much to try to put everyone in matching colors? Would it be wierd to put them in black?

I'd love to hear your input! Picture suggestions espescially appreciated :D

  • Phew that is a lot of BMs!  I think you should pick a designer (preferrably the one you used for his older daughters) and pick a color (or two like you have shown), pick a length and pick a fabric.  Then let your BMs go to town and choose their own dress.  This way they will still coordinate but everyone will be in something that they are comfortable with.

  • I'm not sure by your wording ("What should I put them in?") if you're paying or not.

If not, I think you either need to ask budgets first before you make too many decisions.

Given that many bridesmaids, and I'm assuming a varied range of ages and sizes, you might be best off selecting two colors at David's Bridal (Plum and Wine?) and having them select any dress of their choosing

I like the dresses you've picked out. I think it would be nice if you had your FI daughters in one of the wine colors you've chosen, and your other bridesmaids in the other. For me personally, I'd keep the dress length the same too. Assuming the daughters are younger, if you wanted to go with two different lengths, I'd have them in the shorter ones.

ETA: You could also pick one long dress, and have FI daughters shorten them, while having the other bridesmaids keep the long length. The amount cut off a hem does not change the price of alterations. Also, I like your tuxedo choice - though not always liked by some traditionalist on this board. I believe H wore basically the same outfit as in the picture you posted and he looked great.
