Will the bridal shop and/or designer tell me to kiss off?

Out of the dresses that I'll be trying on, there is one stunner that has an issue I'd want changed.
The below gown is a Maggie and I think it is absolutely beautiful.  The problem is that my fiance sincerely loaths the shiny/satiny look...he always has.  So- originally I thought that if I tried it on and found it to be "the one" that I could ask the bridal shop if it possible to order the gown with a differnet fabric used on the bottom.

But is this something they can/will change?  Or am I wasting my time to even try it on??  I REALLY hope someone out there knows the ins & outs of dress shops/designers and their practices.

  • Maggie Sottero is a mass producer of wedding dresses and I doubt that they would stray from the design like that.

You could try finding an independent dressmaker to have it custom made. Otherwise a more high-end designer would probably be more willing to make major changes like that.

  • I doubt they will change the fabric of the dress...the color maybe, but not the fabric.

  • Ladies, you are probebly right.  bummer.
I'm still going to try it on though....maybe it won't look too shiny in person, or maybe I'll love it so much that my fiance's opinion will not matter as much (?)

    thank you =) !!!

What a fabulous idea!  If I do indeed love this gown, perhaps I could have it custom made with my own specific taste in mind.  LOVE IT!  Just wonder if this can be pulled off for less then $1500?  (budget bride in every way)

  • Some of the Maggies can be ordered in different fabrics, although I think that these options are specified in the description on the website.

Couldn't hurt to ask. But try it on first and see if it's the one you want, and see if it's less shiny in person. Plus, even if it is, I am sure your FI will find you gorgeous no matter what.

I have not looked into having a dress made personally, but have heard it can be quite affordable. Definitely worth looking into if you really love the design!
  • I wore a Maggie Sottero.  Unless they currently are producing it in another fabric, then they won't make changes.  I know there were a few gown designers that did, like Private Label, Allure, and Casablanca.  Why don't you see if any of those designers have something similar?

  • If it makes you feel better or less worried, the satins we have tried have not been super shiny.
