Satin vs. Chiffon Bridesmaid dresses

I am having trouble trying to pick a BM dress. My dress is silk and I was wondering what material would look good for the girls to wear. I have found a satin BM dress and a chiffon BM dress that all the girls like. Would either of these look better than the other with my silk dress or should I try to go with a different material completely?

Re: Satin vs. Chiffon Bridesmaid dresses

  • Silk is just the fiber that your dress is made from. What fabric is it- satin, chiffon, gazar, organza, dupioni, charmeuse? Something else? I imagine that both options are fine, but it would help to know what your dress is.
  • IMO you dont need to match your BM dress fabric with the fabric of your wedding dress. Pick out whatever BM dress that you and your girls like.

  • If the dresses are well made and flattering, fabric is almost irrelevant.  Don't worry too much about it...you definitely don't need to match.

  • Sorry - i should have mentioned its dupioni silk.
  • The fabric of the BM dresses do not need to match the fabric of your dress.  I am wearing a satin gown and my BMs will be in chiffon.

I agree that it does not need to match your gown.  I also think satin tends to look more formal or evening while chiffon is more daytime spring.  That's my opinion, but I would match it with the style of your wedding.

  • It doesn't need to match your gown at all, but I would personally suggest going with chiffon over satin simply because chiffon can be dressed down or up.  Satin can't really be played up or down.
  • If there are two dresses that everyone likes (presuming they have all gotten to try it on and are not just judging from the picture), then I'd just put it to a vote and let majority rule.  I don't think the fabric matters.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
