Seriously considering buying a dress in advance 2-3 sizes too small since I'm losing weight

I eat between 1200-1600 cals a day and am trying to lose about 10 pounds per month until the wedding which is in 5 months.

I'm currently a regular clothes  loose size 16, and was a size tight 16 to 18 about 4 weeks ago.

I expect to be a size 12 in 5 months, so I have been thinking about getting the dress way in advance as a size 12 (assuming the dress reviewers assure me that the dress is true-to-street-clothes size).

I  live about 1000 miles from any bridal shops, so I'll have to order it online unless I fly somewhere in 4 months or so just to buy a dress, which I don't see happening.

Is my plan playing with fire or have you heard of many brides doing this?

I wouldn't put that kind of pressure on yourself. 10lbs a month is quite a lot of weight. Plus, it really just depends how you are proportioned and where you would lose the weight. You might want to try getting a dress with a corseted back so that way you can tighten it (which is what I did).

  • You might be better off to order your dress in your current size, then if you are planning on going down two sizes they can take it in that much without changing the character of the dress.  Sounds like you'll have good success with your weight loss, but it's easier to take in than let out, so you'll be better off if they have to take it in than if for some reason it ends up being too tight.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • When is your wedding? If it's not too close why not wait to order your dress until you're down to the size you want?

</div><div>Well, I saw one on the Nordstrom website that is exactly what I've envisioned for my theme wedding, and it's about $300, which is at the high end of what I wanted to pay but since it's perfect, it's worth it.  So I'm worried it will be sold out soon. </div>
  • Please, please, please don't order your dress too small.

  • Also remember that you might be loosing weight fast now, but you'll probably slow down after a while. For a lot of people, the first 10 or so pounds is much easier to loose than the last 10. It's really playing with fire.

  • Playing with fire. Dresses can usually be taken in easily, but letting them out is a whole different story. MAYBE order one size smaller, but not three.

  • I'm another vote for buy a dress that fits now and find an amazing seamstress.
My seamstress totally changed my dress not due to fit but style and I loved it!
Good luck with the weight loss!
  • Order in your size, alter if you lose weight

This.  I have been on a diet since Nov 1.  In the first 5 weeks, I lost 12# and in the next month I lost 3.  Granted, it was the holidays and I wasn't following like I was the first month- but the point is, you can lose a bunch quickly- mostly water weight.  Then it's tough to get the rest off.  Just watch Biggest Loser.

If you're borderline on size right now, you can go smaller.  But buying online is also risky.  The number really doesn't matter much, all brands are different.  You might swim in it, or it may be way too small.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

This was my exact thought after her whole FB invitation post from, I think, Friday.

</div><div>There are really no bridal shops within 1000 miles from cincy?? I really have a hard time thinking that ANYWHERE in the eastern half of the US does not have a bridal shop within 1000 miles (even 500 miles is pushing it)

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Seriously considering buying a dress in advance 2-3 sizes too small since I'm losing weight : I found this odd as well. Cincy has one of the biggest bridal districts I've ever seen.    <a rel="nofollow" href="http://readingbridaldistrict.com">http://readingbridaldistrict.com</a>

</div><div>I'm not in Cincinnati right now, I'm on a contract for the next 5 months in a very remote location of non-continental US. Yes, it is true, there is literally no bridal shop that I can get to without taking a 36-ish hour ferry or several hour flight.</div>
