Who did you take?

Hey ladies!

I am about to begin my dress search and was just curious as to who you guys took with you when you went looking the first time?!

Re: Who did you take?

  • mom, sister, and two closest friends

don't take too many people. and only take people you're really comfortable with so you can judge the dresses for yourself and not be completely influenced by others or feel like you have to agree with what they think.
  • Mom, FMIL, best friend.  The less, the better.  Believe me, you don't want 100 opinions.
  • Mom and sister
  • Mom, sis, best friend. I agree, you don't want too many opinions.
  • My mom and my grandma. I'm really glad I didn't take anybody else.

  • i've been going on my own and when i decide on the one i'll bring my mother in to get her opinion. i generally go shopping on my own and i didn't want to be swayed by someone else's opinion. i went dress browsing with a close friend and all the dresses she thought would look good on me were not my style at all. she was picking things that were her style so i knew if i brought someone i would get confused cause people have a tendency to think about what they like not necessaryly what is right for your style.
  • My daughter had FMIL, MOH, and3 bridesmaids who wanted to go...and FMIL has STRONG opinions.  So DD and I made a deal.  We made an appt at Davids Bridal and took everyone.  We tried on all different kinds of dresses (FMIL got there 30 minutes before everyone else and had 5 picked out before we came in the door! Surprised  Then we all went and had a lovely late lunch.  Everyone happy!  After that, my daughter and I shopped until we found the one.  Everyone had the experience and we knew we weren't picking that day...so no stress!
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • My mom and my sister (MOH)
  • I took my mom and siter with me, then when I found 'the one' and had ordered it I went back with the other bridesmaids to get their dresses and showed it to them then. I also took my nan as I am so close to her (she spent the whole time crying! Set me off too! Lol).

I agree, only take people you are comfortable with as to many different opinions will influence your choice.

  • I did a recon mission on my own to get a feel for what dress type best fit me, and what I really wanted in a dress.  Once I narrowed down the choice, I brought my MOH (daughter) and son.  Kids have a way of being brutallllly honest yet ever so loving and funny!  Good luck!  As exciting as it is, you really dont want to have too many opinions for your first run, as it can get super stressful.  I was stressed just being on my own!  Best of luck to you!~
  • Just my mom. My sister went to one sho with me when she was in town, but she's out of state. It was a nice moment to have with just my mom, and I'm glad FMIL wasn't there, even though we have a good relationship.
  • I took my mom, my sister/MOH and my FMIL.  We had a great time, especially FMIL (who loves SYTTD and watches it all the time) and we found my dress that day.

  • I took my mom & grandma when i went dress shopping. When I had fnally picked out a dress the day  I purchased it I brought my FMIL w/me to make sure she liked it & she thought it would make my FI drop when he saw me in it.

  • I have been with a collection of different people because I have been so many different times. The first was just mom and MOH, the second time was mom, MOH and one BMs and then another one met us later at another store The third was mom, FMIL, and another BM, and when I actually bought my dress was MOH and a BM. The most I have brought if 3 BMs, MOH and my mom.

  • Just my mom.  Then my mom, sister and friend to confirm the decision - my sister had been upset that she didn't get to go dress shopping with me.  I went spur of the moment while she was away at school.
  • My mom, sister, future sister in law who is also my best friend & my future mother in law. I'm glad I didn't take anyone else because with all 4 of them together I got some strong opinions :)
  • Just my mom, but next time i go, i'll bring MOH too

  • My mother didn't want to go with me. She always came up with excuses why she couldn't go.  My sister goes with me, and if it was up to me to do it again, I would do most of it myself!

  • I went a few times with one or two people (sister and/or bridesmaid(s)). Then when I knew what I wanted I brought my four bridesmaids, my mom, and FMIL. It worked out perfectly.

  •  Mom Dad sister(MOH) and FMIL

my dad wanted to be apart of it. of course i'd let him go
and FMIL doesnt have a daughter so i asked her to be a part of it since she would never have that experience

Exactly what I did!! I went alone maybe three or four times, once I narrowed down my top 5 dresses I included my FI, two sisters, and best friend.

I think you should take just 2-4 ppl, dress shopping is already overwhelming so you don't need too many opinions it will just make you confused and fustrated!!

    Happy Shopping!!!

  • I went against the rules of Randy from SYTTD and took: my mom, 5 sisters and two neices.  We had a great day went to Davids Bridal tried on a bunch of dresses I wasn't too happy with, had lunch, then to a local shop where I found my dress.  There were two I loved but only one that made me cry so obviosuly went with that.  Think my mom and one sister wanted me to try the other one I loved again, but the one I bought just blew it away I could think of putting anything else on.

  • I only took my mom! It was the best experience ever!  We bought the dress in January and to this day no one else has even seen a picture. I love that it is my mom's and my secret!  I agree the less the better! Ans what they say is true... if your mom cries... it is the dress! Have fun and follow your heart!
  • I took just my mom and my sister to all of my appointments except for one. The one that I invited my FMIL and FSIL to was the worst. I was so glad that my mom and my sister were the ones who were with me when I found "the one". Then I took my dad to the store when I actually went back to purchase the dress.
  • I took my Mom with me when I bought  my first dress...after a few days i was unsure about it. Then I tried it on for my Dad..after him telling me I look frumpy and horrifying in the dress i knew i definitely had to buy a new one. When I bought my second dress I was on vacation visiting my friends and family in my home town. I was dress shopping with my MOH and 2 BMs for their dresses and just happened to see the perfect dress. I tried it on and we all cried. Which I didn't do the first time. Guess I shoulda just took my closest friends with me the first time!
  • I took my mom, best friend (MOH), and my two soon to be step-daughters.  My stepdaughters just loved everything and told me I looked pretty in all of them.... I nice contrast to my critical mom
