Is it normal to have second thoughts on the dress?

Backstory: I saw a pic of a bride that I loved, and wanted her dress badly.

I searched high and low, and the closest I could come up with was still very pretty, though not exact.  I loved it and felt like a million bucks (can you tell?).

My bridesmaid who was shopping with me said though it was pretty, it looked like a lot of other dresses she'd seen at weddings, and thought I should stand out.  It was also a bit heavy in weight for an outdoor August wedding.  The search continued.

I bought this at DB for about $400 less than the Maggie (agove), it was on clearance and it was lovely.  However, it wasn't the neckline I wanted and I will have to pay $$ to have a corset put into it.  Making a sweetheart neckline would likely make for a little too much showing in the chest area.

I love how it photographs for other brides too:

I keep thinking about the first dress I saw that I couldn't find for the life of me, and how happy I was when I tried on the Maggie.  I don't know if I shopped too soon (a year ahead of time) or if I'm just being a nutbag....or if this is normal.

Is it normal?

  • I think it's normal. Just remember that you're going to look drop-dead gorgeous no matter what you wear- it's your wedding day.

Do you love the dress you bought? You look great in it.
  • I actually DO love the dress I bought.  I just sort of feel in the back of my mind like maybe I settled a little bit.  I'm generally NOT an indecisive person, either.

    Thank you for the compliment.

  • I had second thoughts, too.  I can't imagine how you can't - you can only pick ONE dress out of thousands.  Kudos to the ladies who can do that and never look back....but I think it is extremely common to have second thoughts.  I think your dress looks great!  If you are having second thoughts about the 2nd dress, ask your seamstress if she could just make the neckline more scooplike.

  • You look beautiful! Just remind yourself of how you felt when you picked it out and that will help.

  • I have second thoughts daily.  I even went so far as to purchase a 2nd (and WAY more expenseive dress!) and I still have 2nd thougths.
