Wear the dress twice?!

so i am getting married and having a reception in one city, and then having a second reception in another city (long distance love blues). my mother in law thinks it would be great if i wore the dress twice, since no one in her hometown would have seen me in it.......

though, i am not sure how i feel about this.

i have been searching some alternatives to this, and the closest option i could think of was getting a dress with a detatchable train, so this way for the 2nd party i could just take it off.....

what are your thoughts about this?

Re: Wear the dress twice?!

  • i'm doing this, my dress is fairly sleek and very comfortable so I am looking forward to wearing it twice. it defintly is nice for the guests that couldn't see you get married to see you in the dress
  • i think thats great, though, ur dress is sleek, and i have always wanted a big poofy fairy tale dress....i think thats my main concern, i dont want to have to wear such a heavy dress twice.... :(

  • i think you should get all the wear that you can out of it and wear it twice.  you'll probably never get to wear it again so might as well wear it twice.
  • I would definitely wear it twice.

  • I'm wearing my dress twice, once at our wedding in Hawaii, and again at our at-home reception next year.  Personally, I'm thrilled that I get to wear my gorgeous wedding dress more than once.. but in my case, it's a very lightweight, knee-length silk dress, and very comfortable.

If you really don't want to wear your dress again, you don't have to.  But it would be nice for your guests at the second event to be able to see it in person too :)
we got it right the second time around! ten.twenty.twenty-ten. Anniversary
  • I too suffer from the long distance blues ( FI and I live in LA together, he is from Wisconsin and I am from Ohio). FI and I are getting married in LA but are then having two more receptions, one in Ohio and on in Wisconsin. The one is Wisconsin will be more relaxed so for that one I am going to wear a white sun dress but for the one in Ohio my mother insists that I wear my dress so all our friends and relatives can see me in my dress. I will be wearing my dress again in Ohio so people who can attend my wedding in LA will still be able to see me look like a bride so I say just go for it plus we get to wear our dress more than once, something I think most brides would like to do.
  • I think it depends on how formal your reception will be just because it might look/feel weird if your guests are in khakis and sundresses and you are in a ballgown. but if the reception is more formal and the guests will be dressed up, then by all means, wear the dress again if you want.
  • I wore my dress twice, once for our legal wedding in the States, the second time for our symbolic ceremony in the DOminican Republic.  I figure I spent enough on it - I was getting all the wear I could out of it!  Not to mention I loved it and had no problem wearing it twice.  :)
