Footwear suggestions?

I'm over a foot shorter than my fiance, so for obvious reasons I would like to wear shoes that will give me some height with my wedding dress!  However, I don't wear heels on a regular basis and most heels end up killing my feet after an hour or two.  I wore David's Bridal heels while trying on dresses there and my feet felt awful afterwards.

Does anyone have suggestions for chains that sell comfortable wedding shoes?  Maybe platform-style shoes?  I think I'd do much better with those than straight-up heels . . .

Thanks for your help!!

Re: Footwear suggestions?

  • I'm in the same boat as you -- my fiance is a giant and I rarely wear heels.  I have a pair of aerosole wedges that are pretty comfy (I think they're 3-4" tall with a small platform).  I wore them to a friend's wedding recently and I was surprised how good my feet felt by the end of the night.
  • I'd vote for wedges as well, because your weight is distributed over the whole shoe, not just the balls of your feet (which is why heels hurt). You could also try a kitten heel if you'd really like something more traditional looking.

Another suggestion is something I read about years ago, and did myself. Go to a dancewear store and try on character shoes (they're ballroom dancing shoes). Most come in black, but they can be ordered in white, and most of the time they will trace your feet and you get custom shoes. They typically have a lower heel and are designed for comfort.

  • This may be me, but the David's Bridal shoes were the most uncomfortable heels I've ever worn.

I totally agree with the girls who suggest wedges.

I had to wear heels for work for a little while.  I had a lot of luck with Stewart Weitzman heels.  They can be expensive, but if you check out some of the discount flash sale sites, you can get them at a reasonable price.  I also LOVE my naturalizer shoes.  They're so stinking comfortable.

The last tip I had was to try high heel u (I think that's what it's called).  One of my friends showed it to me and it had videos about how to walk in heels.  Saved my feet.

Agree with the wedges or platform; don't limit yourself to just 'bridal shoes' - I found a cute pair on Zappos.com. You can also buy a pair with similar heel size and wear as often as you can... practice, practice, practice
