Bridesmaids of a feather.........

So I have finally made "the purchase." I recently bought my wedding dress and now I am having trouble with picking out bridesmaid dresses. I wanted to try to have them flow with my dress but I'm having a hard time finding anything even remotely close to going with it. I also just read something about how the bridesmaid dresses should be the same length and have the same neckline as your wedding dress. I wanted to have them wear short dresses... I also wanted to try the whole David Tutera thing with having them all in the same color but different dresses as far as the tops being different... Fiance thinks that would look weird I just dont want them to look like a big blob of whatever color dress if that makes an sense.... Any suggestions? Any helpful websites that may help pair the bridesmaid dresses with my wedding dress?

Re: Bridesmaids of a feather.........

  • Their dresses do not have to be the same length or neckline as yours. And it does not look at all weird for for them to be in different styles of the same color of dress. You can find lots of Google images that show bridesmaids in a variety of styles of a dress standing together and show him that it looks perfectly lovely.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I had my girls wear long dresses because I was getting married on October 20th and it is usually fairly cool that late into October where I live.

I think this is a very old school rule created back when all BM dresses were either bubblegum pink or seafoam green.

If all BM dresses had to be the same length as the wedding dress, there would be very few short BM dresses. 3 of the last 4 weddings I've been to have had short dresses. I was more concerned with fabric than length or neckline. All of my girls ended up liking the same dress, but I would have been open to different styles. There are lots of good picture examples of it.

As it is, my girls ended up picking a short chiffon dress with a flutter sleeve. We ordered them tea length so everyone could hem it to the length they liked, and some are removing the sleeves, so it will be the same dress just tailored to each girls comfort and style. I'm really excited to see all of the finished products.

  • I'm looking at the dresses for my girls to somewhat look like mine.I want the same kind of fabric and flow, but as for design and everything else, I just rally like the sheer sleeve look in my gown to be on the girls. And one of my bridesmaids has a hideous tattoo that I want to not see.

<div>I absolutely love this idea! Not copywritten? I may steal it! LoL I love that you gave them the option to alter the dress to suit their personality! Thanks for the advice!</div>

[QUOTE]SLOW DOWN!!!! Your wedding isn't until May 2014! Don't start looking for bridesmaid attire more than six months before the wedding, because: Styles will change several times between now and then. They'll be out money NOW for a dress that will just hang in their closet for a year and a half. They can gain weight, lose weight or even get pregnant in that time. No - their dresses do NOT "have" to coordinate with yours, or have the same neckline.  Someone gave you silly advice.

<div>I know.. I think the real issue I am having is that I am trying to pick colors so everytime I try to pick out a color scheme I try to envision bridesmaid gowns in those colors.. Ultimately I freak myself out about it therefore still stumped with colors. I know.. I'm making things harder than it has to be... </div>
