Menswear question

Should ushers be required to wear the same rental tux as the groomsmen?

Re: Menswear question

  • I'm not a fan of 'requiring' ushers to wear something they don't already own. Just ask them to wear a dark suit.

  • I've never been to a wedding where they didn't wear a tux. (usually the complimenting color from the groomsmen).  That being said, I don't think you HAVE to have them wear a tux if you don't want to.  Our colors are purple and silver, so the groom is in white, the groomsmen in purple, the ushers in silver, and dad's in black vests.
  • No, in my opinion there shouldn't be any requirements on the ushers to wear a particular suit. Other than to ask them to wear a dark suit. They generally shouldn't have to spend any money to dress for your wedding, unless they don't already own a suit that would work. If it's normal in your circle for the ushers to be more formal or to rent tuxes then I would go with what you normally do where you live.
  • All the weddings I have been to the ushers have been in tuxs. Our ushers will be in a slightly different "less expensive' tux than the groommen and they will be in a different color vest then the groommen to set them apart from each other. Our Dad's will also be in tuxes, but just black ones.
