So to save money, I picked a prom dress...

and I look great in it...so flattering and flowy, down to the floor, but its white and black...is this going to be a bad thing?  I was thinking of changing out the sash/bow with silver or white.  There is also sparkles on it.

  • I wanted a white and black gown, so personally I think its great!

If you change out the sash I would stick with white and nix the silver, the silver may make it look prom-ish.

I don't see anything wrong with thinking outside of the box. Colored (or colored accented) wedding gowns are becoming VERY common now! I think it's great..

There will always be people that think, "omg.. it's not white!!"
I say eff them. traditions are silly.
I had someone tell me that I was an idiot for letting my H (Fi at the time) go wedding gown shopping with me because it's tradition for him not to see me in it until the day.
My response was something along the lines of, "yeah well traditionally you aren't suppose to sleep with the man until after you're married. Did you keep that tradition as well?"
    She promptly shut up.

Weddings in the US are pieced together from all kinds of traditions, and a while gown is just another one. You rock that gown! You'll look stunning :)
  • Thanks!  I love it, but I guess I need some reassurance <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

  • Aw thanks!!  I like the idea that traditions don't have to be traditions anymore and we can do what we want!

  • I love it.  And I love that you're not just going all white.

The silver sash idea is ideal.

That's a great dress! I love the pattern. I think I'd prefer the black sash, but it's probably because I can't see the details in the picture well enough to think that silver makes sense.

  • Looks great!!!
  • I like it!   I wore a white dress to my senior prom, and swore I was going to wear it as a wedding dress too....
  • Is it strapless with black straps to hang it or are those black spaghetti straps? The reason I ask is because if they're straps and you're going to swap out the sash, I would also swap out the straps just to make it match. But that's just me being paranoid and matchy-matchy. It's entirely up to you. I love the pattern on the dress though.

  • I think it looks fantastic! If I was at a wedding and the bride walked down the aisle in that dress, I would be like "good for her"!
