Different Bridesmaid Dresses?

Did anyone have their bridesmaids choose different style dresses?  If so, how did it turn out?  Did they all look like they went together (in pictures and in person)?

Because my bridesmaids live in different areas and are all different sizes, I'm thinking of skipping the chaos and letting them each choose their own black dress, but I'm thinking of stipulating that the material should be a satin or stretch satin.

Re: Different Bridesmaid Dresses?

  • Several brides do this and it still looks amazing.  Plus, you keep happy BM's because they can all reflect their own personal style.  I say go for it!
  • I'm letting my bridesmaids pick their own dresses and they're all really happy about it. I'm excited to see them all together and know that they will look great.

  • I just told them to wear black.  I didn't bother specifying a material, because black is black.  Pics in bio.  I think it was one of the best wedding-related decisions I made.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • iMO, the fabric and length should be the same.

    overal style can be different
  • they definitely do NOT need to be the same fabric.  you will not be able to tell and even if you can...it wont matter.  if you look at wedding blogs...you'll see that brides are letting their BM pick any dress and it looks GREAT.  green wedding shoes is a great blog to check out for this sort of thing.

i'm letting my girls pick whatever they want.  it just has to be short and it has to be either navy or grey or both.  they can pick solid or print too.  i dont care.

  • You will definitely be fine.  My BMs wore different dresses and it looked great.

I was just thinking about the same thing. I wil probably have 7 BMs and I was going to give 3 dresses to choose from. I was going with the color grey. One dress that Lazaro (LZ3032) makes comes graphite and the rest come in platinum and I can't tell if they are the same colors. They look similar. Will that be that big of a deal?

  • All my girls picked different dresses (well 2 of them picked the same one).  All are going to be the same color/fabric except my MOH, she got a different color.

  • Check our Aria Bridesmaid dresses.  They are FAB!  I used them for our wedding and they looked great.  You choose the fabric and color and they choose the style of dress, all 6 of my BMs chose a different style, all cocktail length, and it looked great.  They have pictures of real weddings on their site, which is a huge help!
    Good Luck!
  • I've just told my BMs to go pick their own dress. It's just supposed to be black and full length. I don't particularly care about fabric, necklines or shoes as long as my closest friends are comfortable and happy at my wedding. :)
