Cleaning your own wedding dress...anyone tried??

I bought a very pretty Mori Lee dress that retails for about $1200 as a sample (in perfect condition) for $99 on eBay. My wedding was outside and it rained right before the ceremony started, so my hem is pretty dirty. I got estimates from a few local cleaners that were around $125. I know that I can get it cleaned and preserved for about $125 too. I just have a hard time spending more than I paid for the dress for cleaning. I have already spent $175 for alterations. I am not super attached to it, I would sell it. I don't want to just let the dirt set in it though. I found these directions and a few other similar articleson cleaning your dress yourself. Anyone tried this? Should I give it a go or just shell out $125+ for a dress that I may or may not be able to sell?

  • I'd be very hesitant about cleaning it yourself, especially if you're considering selling it. I'd say if its a new style you would probably have no problem selling it for a reasonable price, so I say go ahead and shell out the money.

  • I would pay the $125 if you can... you're still getting a fantastic deal and you know it'll be done right.
