Lace and Organza Dress: Ivory or White?

So I finally! found THE dress - mind you I went to 4 appointments and looked through 2 stores to finally find it.  It's the wtoo ava.  It has lace on top and and simple organza bottom.  It comes in 2 colors - white or ivory.  The next!  I always wanted a white gown, always thought I'd order the white no dilema matter what - however, the dress I tried on was ivory.  Not too extremely ivory but you can definitely tell when it is next to white.  I have talked to 4 bridal shops asking opinions about ordering lace in white and have received different opinions.  Some say white looks cheap with lace, others say it just looks better bc you can see more details and of course I go the classic: it's your wedding order what you want.  I have stopped at 3 stores asking to just see a lace gown in white - regardless of the dress and none of them have one!

Has anyone seen or ordered a white lace gown? opinions on it??

I'm worried about tux color shirts - FI wants white shirt black tie no vest, and a particular black jacket.  Table clothes are going to be in white.  I don't want the dress to look cheaper or less elegant being in a white vs ivory bc of the lace.

  • Welll....I would go with what looks best on your skin tone.  Personally, I'm as pale as a ghost, so i chose Ivory.

Secondly....is your wedding during the day or at night?  It's my opinion that white sometimes looks better durnig the day, but ivory is stunning in low light/candlelight.

Your dress doesn't need to match the color of the linens.  You can have an ivory dress and white linens, or vice versa.  As for your fiance's shirt, no matter which color dress you choose, white shirts are classic.  Ivory shirts tend to look dingy.
  • My lace and organza dress was ordered in ivory. I thought it looked perfect, and like you it wasnt a yellow ivory, it was very light. The men are still wearing white shirts with black vests and black tuxes.

As PP said, go with what will look best with your skin tone.  For me that meant ivory.  (My dress is all lace.)  And don't worry about trying to match your dress to the linens or the guys shirts.  It will be fine.  :)

ETA:  Can you show us a pic of the dress?  I'm really curious what it looks like now.  And that actually gives me another idea, does the designer's website have the option to change the color in the picture so you can see what white looks like as opposed to ivory?

  • As PP said go with the tone that looks best with your skin tone. My gown is champagne on top and ivory lace on bottom. Im very pale and white is just to harsh on me.

  • My preference is ivory. Ditto pp, it depends on skin tones!
Not being able to govern events, I govern myself, and apply myself to them, if they will not apply themselves to me.
  • some shades of ivory are very white looking. my dress was like that. I tried on one dress that was ivory lace and it was very yellow looking, but the dress i got was chifflon ivory and it looks white. if they hadnt said it was ivory I would have ordered the white dress thinking it was the same thing i tried on. plus the ivory looks better with my skin tone since i am super pale.

This is the dress.  The picture is in the ivory color and doesn't let me change it.  I don't necessarily have a skin tone problem having white vs ivory as I tan fairly well.  The wedding is in August.  I would have probably ordered the dress in ivory except they brought in a white dress to compare color and it was definitely different.  It's the wtoo/watter's ivory.  The other curve ball in it all - i would like an all white bridal bouquet and again - online it says becareful with certain white flowers against ivory, ect... ugh.. :/ I order the dress tomorrow so we will see what I decide over night!
