In the beginning of June I joined LA fitness which was 25 minutes from my house- but it was the closest gym that had classes so I figured I go. Well I paid $108 for the month of June and July. About the 3rd week in July, I went in to pick-up a cancellation form because I wasn't using it. I used it only twice for $108 but figured it was better to cancel now and chalk it up to a live and learn experience.
Well, the guy behind the desk scanned my key card and printed out the needed cancellation form. I took that form- mailed it in to their corporate office which needed to be done. Thought it was all good.
Fast foward to October 25- I just received a phone call from LA Fitness telling me I needed to update my account (I got a new debit card) and he would be more than happy to waive any late fees on my account. Great. I give the guy a call back explaining that I cancelled in July. So, the guy told me that my account was debited for August and September's payments for a total of $90. Now, I take full responsibility for not keeping closer tabs on my account but I thought this membership had been cancelled. Now, they are trying to get my October payment.
Supposedly, there is no cancellation record for my account. It's not even showing that the club printed the cancellation paper for me and the guy told me, "our system doesn't flaw." But it did flaw!!! He asked me if I ever received an e-mail letting me know my cancellation had gone though. Well, no I didn't but the club did not tell me to expect one. How would I know that a confirmation e-mail is sent upon cancellation if they don't tell me? So, this guy says his hands are tied and "my best bet" would to go back to my home club and speak with them and ask for another cancellation form. Seriously?! I need to do the entire process again that ovbiously didn't work the first time?! And he told me that I won't be able to cancel until there is no outstanding balance on the account so I've got to pay up! So basically, I've got to pay anout $30 to cancel my membership. Awesome!
Why does it seem that gym memberships are impossible to cancel and also has the worst customer service ever?!
