sorry this is weird but looking to pick some brains in case anyone has advice or experience with this.
FI has this acquaintance "bob". long story, they met on a kickball team like 5 years ago. FI always reached out to him with emails for group outings and such to keep him in the loop. bob has MS, his parents are pricks, and he lives alone with his medical problems and his trust fund. very sad.
long story short, over the past year bob has started sending out nasty/borderline threatening emails to everyone who was on that kickball team. FI sent out an email re: our engagement and bob responded with "i hate you, and your stupid brother, i don't want to see you, tell so and so i don't want to see them either".....blah blah blah. wtf?!?
FI shared this with the named people just as a heads up. turns out many of them have run into bob and had bizarre interactions, or have gotten similar emails, but nothing was explicit enough to do anything about, so they all just steered clear.
today one of his friends got a new email: "i never liked you or your ex-girlfriend, you're disgusting and if i see you i might beat the shxt out of you. do you understand or do i need to keep naming names? tell your cousin to stay out of my neighborhood, understand? don't reply, i've already told all your lame friends the same thing."
this seems paranoid and borderline psychotic, which could be a severe symptom of his MS. he's never been the most pleasant guy but this seems out of character. FI and his friends want to get this guy some help, but he doesn't have any friends or family to speak of, and quite frankly now they're getting scared and thinking they should file a police report.
wtf? and what would you guys do? we have a pretty quiet and drama free life, so this is new territory for everybody.
edited title: not really about "police reports" i guess, they just don't know what to do and that was an option somebody brought up.
