What is "guy out"?

From: mehgank Date: 8/18/2009 at 2:09 PM Wow, that's DEFINITELY not the reaction you expect when announcing your pregnancy. That rates right up there with the guys' reaction in Knocked Up. Yikes. When I told my FI (boyfriend at the time) that I was pregnant, I was totally expecting him to "guy out" and be like "Yeah, I gotta go...." but he did the exact opposite (thank God). He picked me up and started spinning me around in circles, then fell to his knees and started kissing my tummy for a few seconds, then stood up and cupped my face in his hands and said "We're really having a baby?" with tears in his eyes. Now, if you met my FI, you'd think this was totally out of character for him (he's 6'4" tall and about 240lbs, a big muscly cop). After I lost the baby about 3 weeks later, he held me as I cried. I am so thankful that I found such a gracious and loving man who will stick by me through thick and thin. He's wonderful :) groomz, do you know about this from your man club?

Re: What is "guy out"?

• Why do you need to know this? Is everything okay? I am worried about your overall tone on the forums.
• I think it means "to take out ones man unit and smack someone with it. See also: Mushroom stamp."

• Winged, I almost posted this, but I didn't think anyone would be back at that post. I should have known...Is guy out like cream the cookie?

• my H would be offended.  I'm 100% sure he's all guy, yet, he'd never do what was described ("yeah, I gotta go . . ")

• It means act like an idiot. You know the typical guy image. Not acting like a man.... Like instead of being happy and supportive, act like a douche.
• My fantasy bed is so empty without you in it. Pleaasse come back and spoon with me my love.
• It hurts me that you are moching me when I am just trying to be a good friend.

• Haha, wow I've never been quoted here before LOL When I referred to it as "guy out" I meant like the worst you could fear about how a guy would react to that sort of news. Basically pull away and make the situation worse, instead of acting supporting and loving.

• I question why you'd be having a baby with a man you even suspect might "guy out."

• It's just a term I've heard before, I didn't come up with it. Sorry it caused so much confusion, I figured it was a relatively common saying (maybe it's only common around where I live). And the pregnancy wasn't planned, we had only been together a few weeks (hence my fear of his reaction, since we hadn't known each other that long, let alone talked about the future/marriage/kids at that point), and if you re-read my post, you'll see that I lost the baby, so it's not like I'm still pregnant.Since that situation, we've gotten to know each other a lot, lot better, and I know he's not like what I had feared about most guys.

• Honestly, if I got pregnant from a guy I'd only been dating a few weeks and he was that ecstatic about it, I'd run as far and as fast as I could from him.  That weirds me out.

• Well, we had been friends for over a year, but at the time we were only dating a few weeks. So, it's not like we were strangers and then started dating. We were close before, and then started dating.

• I question why you'd be longtime friends with and then sleep with a guy you think would "guy out."  But I'm sure that the BC pills and the condoms all failed you, yes?

• I question why you'd be longtime friends with and then sleep with a guy you think would "guy out." That's a good point. I was all prepared to defend and say that Zane and I were friends forever, and consequently knew within three or four weeks that we were getting married. However, I knew him well enough to know that he would not have "guyed out" if I had accidentally gotten pregnant at that time.

• Yeah, those are the guys you hang out watching football with, and if exceptionally attracted, you might eff with 4 different kinds of birth control.  They aren't the guys you start a relationship with, much less marry.
image
• Even if I knew the guy for a while, if we had only been in a relationship for a few weeks and I got pregnant, I want his response to be, "Have you decided what you'd like to do with it?" instead of assuming I'm going to have it.

• Whoa this got way more heated than I had intended.Look, you have to admit, that anytime your start a relationship with someone, there's always a split-second where you have a slight fear in the back of your mind about stuff like this. Especially if you've been burned as badly as I have by men in the past.

• I've never had a relationship with a guy I thought would leave me on my own to deal with the consequences of an unplanned (by which I mean BC pills and condoms failed) pg.
image
• With how many times I've been hurt in the past, I pretty much expect all guys to react that way. Sorry, but I've been burned way too many times. I'm just lucky enough to have found someone who didn't. We're just arguing about semantics here. I should have been more clear in my original post that I had a split-second where I worried that he might react in a manner that most of my ex's did, but I should have known he was better than them.
