Snarky Brides

Re: Anyone see this?

• That is crazy. If he already had problems before the plane crash I am sure that didn't help. This is apparently the second famous person to die on my H birthday this year.
• Damn, this has not been a good summer for celebrities.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz

Winged- He was like a cat with 9 lives and he finally used his last life. Drugs (prior), gastric surgery, plane crash, etc. It's like the Holocaust survivor who got killed by the gunman at Virginia Tech. You survive the Holocaust to get killed anyway. DJ AM was one of two survivors of a plane crash only to die anyway.
• it's like Final Destination, celebrity style
• you escaped the plane crash by the skin of your teeth. you'd think mortality would have a whole new meaning. but if you wanna die shirtless, facedown, and next to your crack pipe.... have at it. celebrity is so cool. This is exactly what I thought when my husband told me about this earlier. I have trouble having much sympathy for a situation like this.
• Well in his defense, I'm sure getting put back on prescription pain pills for his skin graft after the crash didn't help much. It's really hard to medicate someone with a prior history of drug abuse.

• Glad to hear you're so compassionate about drug addiction, mamakin.  Geez. :/

• I have zero sympathy too.  Maybe if he ODed on Rx pain pills I would, but crack?  Loser.

• Oh, can we please have the Addition: choice or affliction debate? You know you want to.

• He had been clean for over ten years when he got into a horrific plane crash and had to start taking painkillers.  I would think this warrants a little more sympathy than your average crack overdose.

• Even if it was crack bought with the 20 million dollars he sued the family of the pilots for after that crash?

• Common, Wendy, he sued their insurance companies, not their estates.  He never got the money, and even if he had, it's not like he couldn't afford crack before the plane crash.

• Eh, I just have trouble feeling sorry for a crack addict, even if he did need to take painkillers a year ago.

• He had to take painkillers and knew his propensity toward addiction which you would think would make him hypervigilant.  He did not have to take crack even IF you believe he had been clean for years which I always find a bit suspect in ODs.

• eh, he is not the first person to quit drugs, get put on pain pills and relapse. I cannot imagine the pain he was in with his serious burns and assume that he had no choice but to take the pain pills.Drugs addiction is bad. Some people die from it. It wouldn't be bad if people didn't. At the same time, I am not completely giving him a pass. I do think that even with addiction there is a choice. I quit smoking. Cigarettes are highly addictive. I have to choose every day not to smoke still since it has only been 9 months. It was very hard in Europe being around smokers so much, but I didn't have one.
• I think it's mostly choice, but addiction does alter one's brain chemistry.  So it's not the same as someone who has never done a drug choosing not to.
• I have compassion for addicts in general. I agree with Fallin, if it had been a pain pill thing, it would be different. A former addict taking pain pills and becoming addicted is more forgivable than an addict taking pain pills, and then choosing to begin using illegal hardcore drugs again. There seems to be a far more deliberate jump happening there, not just "oops, I have an addictive personality and accidentally became dependent on my prescription pain meds" I also don't believe that he was clean for ten years. Especially because he was with Nicole Ritchie during her drug soaked years, no?
• Does having dated Nicole Richie for a bit really qualify you as a celebrity?

• i'll admit, the guy had a lot going on with post-traumatic stress disorder, etc.  but he'd been clean for SO LONG.  having to go on pain pills could cause a relapse for an addict, but pain pills =/= crack.  it just seems like such a waste.  he obviously wasn't getting the help he desperately needed.  and  i keep reading about his girlfriend that just broke up with him.  he's been through so much, and it just seems ridiculous that THAT might be what put him over the edge. sad any way you look at it.

• Groomz, he was also part of that wicked awesome band "Crazytown", who had their smash hit "Butterfly" 8 years ago. He's practically a music icon!
• and i keep reading about his girlfriend that just broke up with him.The media pisses me off with this.  Addicts don't need a reason to do drugs.   Non-addicts don't OD b/c a girl dumps them.I sincerely doubt the dude was actually clean for 11 years.   Addicts lie.  I mean he was recently filming an intervention show.
