Snarky Brides

PSA - Teachers

Go do an internet search for yourself. Go look at google, bing, yahoo, aol, and anything else you can think of. Also go to ratemyteachers.com and look up your name.

One of my good friends found her name today, along with the comments " Ms. X is so fine I want to **** her" "I can't concentrate in class because of her tiits" and many more of that nature. She found out because a parent told her about this. She is one of the most conservative dressing teachers I know and is currently under review because of these damn comments.

So go look up yourself now, especially on this site. Don't let a parent find dirt for you.

[QUOTE]Being a teacher makes me hyper sensitive to this kinda stuff. But then again, I don't tend to do anything overly inappropriate in general.

I just checked for my school, and it wasn't even there.  I've already deleted MySpace, locked down Twitter (not that I ever do anything there anyway), and locked down FB.  I found out by googling myself that there are a lot more people out there with my name than I thought, though.  Thankfully, none of them seem to be overly stupid, either.

I'm with Numbers, though...I don't do much that would be considered inappropriate, anyway.

Thanks for the heads-up on ratemyteachers.com, though.  I'll be going to check that periodically.
  • That's what shocked her Saxy. She doesnt do FB, Myspace, Twitter, or subscribe to any online magazines/groups because she takes her position seriously so when a parent told her to google herself she was completely blown away.

She's an absolutely gorgeous woman but doesn't know it, and does nothing to enhance/show it. She wears no make-up and her wardrobe is normally slacks (not tight fitting) and turtlenecks/sweaters. She's the type of woman who could come to work in a paper bag and still be beautiful, but it's not her fault and now she could get screwed because of it.
  • Wow, that's really a shame.  Surely the school district doesn't expect to only hire elderly hags?  :P

See that's so annoying. It's not her fault!! It's not like she's slutting it up at work. Ugh this annoys me a lot. TOTALLY NOT HER FAULT. I wouldn't call myself particularly beautiful and I definitely need makeup BUT I do have big boobs so I can understand to an extent. I used to work at a summer rec. program and would wear t-shirts and shorts and would still catch the pre-teen boys talking about my boobs. My boss talked to me about it once (he was a perve so he just thought it was funny) but I was like - what am I supposed to do?? Tape them down!??

I really hope everything works out for your friend. It's so stupid that they are calling her under review for being pretty.

  • I hope they don't punish her for something she had no control over. I've seen those sites, they also have one for college professors. It's all the students, people can post anything. I check for my mom every so often, luckily it's all nice stuff.
  • Yeah, she contacted the site admins yesterday to take down the stuff, and I just went through and flagged the questionable ones remaining so hopefully they will say "Ok, not your fault, you took action to remove it, let's move on"
  • thats horrible. I hope everything works out okay.
I'd hate to be a teacher these days. There are so many more challenges with technology and all of the politics, etc.
  • I actually discovered an awful secret about someone I knew that was a teacher from that stupid site, oh what's it called...
    oh yeah...
    www.topix.com

One of her students posted something about her (that was true) and they all had a field day with it. I felt awful for her.

My friend linked me to that site awhile ago... someone was creating topics about who they thought was a lesbian in their school and she was named.

The site allowd you to literally post up any topic to discuss in your area.
The slogan is "Your town. Your news. Your take."
For instance, when I go to the site there are topics about a nearby car accident and the traffic it caused, who you voted for Senator, and some guy who was just arrested for dealing heroin, among other stories.

Some of it's interesting to read, other is just troll crap. I'm not a frequent visitor of the site, but if you're interested in area gossip, then you might want to check it out.

  • Rate My Teachers has been around forever.  A lot of people have ongoing issues with it, since anyone can post any rating and you really have no recourse.
  • I wasn't on there (of course, I haven't taught in 2 years), but neither were my coworkers, and my former school wasn't listed, surprisingly.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • That's terrible katie, I hope everything works out for your friend. I feel like with teachers, anytime something comes up that seems inappropriate they're guilty until proven innocent and that's got to suck for people who are just trying to be educators to have to deal with unfounded personal attacks. I don't know how people do it, more power to them, I could never teach
