Scam?

So as some of you know I am an indepent consulatant for a company and sell things. Well, I have a listing on Craigslist for my Jeep (unrelated to the product I sell) and I got an email from someone regarding the Jeep. Then I got another email from someone with the same last night regarding the product I sell. This is what it said:

Hello Rep,

How are you doing? I am interested in ordering some X product.I have heard a lot about X and also the lovely products they have developed during the years and i am delighted to have used some. I am a model though. I'll kindly like to order the below item.

Item#   Apex Full-Size X Warmer====qty 5

Item#   Little Lamb Mid-Size Warmer Bundle====qty 5

        Black Raspberry Vanilla Fragrance Foam  ======  qty 12

        Blueberry Cheesecake Room Spray      ======  qty 10

I'll need you to send me the total cost for this item listed above including shipping to ( 2122 Riverside Court,Lansing MI,48906 ) or perhaps I can have it picked up at your place if you wish. Also do let me know if you accept payment by check. If you are wondering where i got your contact details from its from the scentsy web site.

Thanks and hope to read from you soon.

S. Kist.

Am I being paranoid or does it sound a little weird? Now that I think about it, people on craigslist should have no idea I sell this product unless I have personally emailed them (It's in my email signature).

Re: Scam?

  • Sounds weird to me.  I would avoid this.
  • Oh, I forgot to mention and basically said something like:
    "thank you for your interest! If you like you can go to my website and place an order. Unfortunately I do not take personal checks unless it is in person but I'd be happy to meet up with you to let you sample the product. Let me know if you have further questions, I look forwardto your order!"

    I figure that sounds nice enough in case it's legit, right?
  • Yes.  That keeps is professional, if it's real, but kind of challenges them if they're fake.
  • Plus there's the fact that their order is frickin weird. 12 fragrance foams?! They're scented hand sanitizers....and the other things, you would only order 1 of.

    Great response!

    Yeah, it totally sounds sketchy.
  • That sounds kind of shady to me. Then again, I've been getting random emails from people in different languages so I'm on high alert for weirdos.
  • She lives in Michigan and wants to come out to Arizona to pick them up?

    And why does she say "I'm a model though" ?

    I feel confused.

  • Sascha- I know, what's with the I'm a model. Uhhh, ok?
  • Obviously you should give her free stuff because she's a model ;)

    I like your response.
  • Uh...huh. She said she got your email from the website, but...aren't email addresses hidden on craigslist ads until you respond to their query?

  • I just googled the address and it's a house that's up for sale.  Stay far far away!

  • Do not say you will take a personal check. period end of story. ONLY ever accept cash & never tell them your home address. DH sold his broken x-box on craigslist & agreed to meet the guy at a nearby rest stop & took cash from him -- otherwise he would not do it (even though it was only $40). Usually if you say this they will change their tune completely or not reply.

  • Hahaha here's the reply I got:

    "Thanks for  the email, i want you to know that i am unable to order online because  i just deactivated my credit card, due to some missing funds in it .They said it as been hacked. This is the more reason i am  placing a mail order.  Kindly send me the quote for the needed items previously sent to you.
    Hope to read from you soon.
    S."

    I told her the total is about $550 and if she wants to meet up I'd be happy to place the order. People are so ridiculous and pathetic.
