Since I live in Houston, I walk outside for all of my humidity needs, but I DO have a small Delonghi bathroom heater that I love. I like Delonghi products.

ETA: They seem to make mostly dehumidifiers.
    Maybe this site will help:

my parents have a large room, programable humidifer so it keeps the room at a certain humidity level.  It is really quiet.

I have one for my bed room that I have to turn on/ off.  Its fairly quiet and I like it.  We have had some cheaper humdifiers/ other brands and they were way to loud to have in the bed room- and I sleep through most anything.  This is similar- maybe the newer version of mine? or one step larger, not exactly sure.

  • My fiance and I tried to get a humidifier last winter (...or the winter before?) because we both had horrible dry skin.  It claimed to be a space heater/humidifier.  Very little humidity, it was cold humidity, and we were dissappointed.  I don't recommend cool mist in the winter, obviously... :)

It was made by SPT.  Avoid.
  • Yes, portable cool mist, used only when I am violently sick (coughing up lungs) and it's cold enough that we're actually using central heat.  The biggest issue with it is that the area around it tends to get damp from water as it drifts back down towards the floor.  So if I have it on my nightstand, it hits my face but it also slowly dampens my sheets/floor/nightstand.  After long enough, it can make slippery/cold/wet surfaces on things. So I only use it if I really need to.

  • I honestly have no idea what a humidifier is for.
  • yeah, to be honest, I don't really understand the science behind it. All I know is that we run a furnace all winter, and rarely open the windows due to the cold. And it gets really really dry. This apparently causes congestion. DH is suffering badly from it now and I usually do most of the winter. Figured we should just buy one.
  • for me, when the humidity drops I wake up in the morning with headaches because my sinuses are so dry- thats the biggest reason for it.   That and my skin gets really dry.  I think it effects me more because there is a change in humidity over the seasons.  If it was consistantly dry I don't think it would effect me as much.

  • Ohh, that all makes sense.  I must just be used to it.  If I ever move back east I am screwed.
  • We have one built into our new HVAC unit that runs with the heat to keep moisture in the house.

  • I don't think I could live with out a humidifier here in the winter.  My whole life I had nose bleeds regularly in the winter, and an ENTS recommended I try one.  Fixed my problems :)  My house is really dry, and it also seems to help with the heating bill.  Make sure that you change your filters regularly, and use the bacteria treatment to put into the water.   This is the one I have clicky
