Unusual bill splitting question

So, I used restaurants.com to get purchase a $50 off the purchase of $100 bill for a local, nice pizza bistro.
Well, I suggested to T's mom that while the family is in town we have the family go there since T and I really don't need to spend $100 on pizza for the 2 of us. I guess we're going tonight and...I dont mean to sound cheap....but what do you think the best way to split the bill is? Would we just split it evenly amoung the couples, would we all pay for our own. I guess I feel like because I already purchased this giftcard/ coupon we should get a little bit of a break (not saying free).
I dont know...I could be being ridiculous. Tell me the truth...

Re: Unusual bill splitting question

  • It sounds like you offerred to use your giftcard to take people out to eat, so maybe have the rest of them split the rest of the bill?

  • Hmm, I think I'd use the giftcard for myself and H, and let the others figure out the rest. Technically you're still paying your way, right? Maybe you could throw in for the tip, but I'm not sure. When we go out we usually just pay for our own meals to make it easier on everyone.
  • I guess my question is how much pizza does $100 buy. I know DH and I cant eat that much, and if I's reading this right, you can buy $100 worth of pizza for you $50 coupon. I would just put in my $50 coupon and let the rest of the people pay for the remainder.

  • Ok, so it's not wrong to just put in my $50 coupon (unless of course T and I spend over $50) ?
  • I don't think so, no. You're paying your way, whether it's a coupon or cash.
  • I agree, coupon is fine for your part of the bill.
  • I agree with everyone else. Now I really want pizza. With ranch.
  • Your coupon is for $100 right?  But you got it for $50?

I think that is totally fine to just put in the coupon.  If the bill goes way over I would offer something towards the tip.

But doesn't restaurant.com usually have 70-80-90% off?  We have some $50 off of $100 coupons that we bought for under $10 - they are always having sales, and hopefully you know not to pay full price on there!  I am sure whatever you decided to do is fine, but I don't think it's exactly the same to buy a discounted coupon for $50 and have the other party pitch in the real $50.

For what it's worth, whenever we've used these coupons for larger groups of people, we either paid the whole check (for H's parents), or split the remainder of the bill among friends, since the coupons are so cheap.
