I removed the christmas decorations from the garage at 12:01 am today.  ;)  I have to rearrange the living room/kitchen for optimal holiday enjoyment, but i hope to have it all decorated (excluding the tree) by this next weekend.

I try to decorate the outside (just like everyone else in my town) previous to major ice/snow.  Which means this week.

i actually only have Christmas decor in my bedroom year round.  It's a big vase with the decorated silver branches from our reception centerpieces.
  • I usually get on it the day after Thanksgiving, and things are usually all up by around the first of December.  This year we might be moving around December 1 (nothing like some last minute planning), so I'm not sure what we're going to do.  I usually leave things up and lights lit until New Year's, so I have a week on the other end to enjoy everything.
  • I kinda want to start decorating inside the house now, just because our wedding is in a few weeks so I'm not sure I'll be up to it when we get back.  But I love Christmas and it's our first house so I'm really excited to have a place to decorate.
  • I haven't in the past 3 years *hangs head in shame*. Mostly because we don't celebrate at home and because we didn't have room before we moved to this condo. . All my Christmas stuff is stored at work and we use it in our common area. I'll take it home this year, but still, with the wedding the weekend after Thanksgiving, then a 2 week honeymoon, then FI being gone to Utah for 2 days for work the next week, we won't have much time to decorate, or enjoy it.

  • We just started (obviously). Last year we were supposed to be in a new house by Christmas so we never decorated because we kept waiting for the closing to occur, then lost that house. We're making up for it this year :)
  • I usually wait till 2 weeks before, and I have it down after Christmas is over.

We dont have enough common area to have a tree for any extended amount of time.
    Plus I'm a Grinch.

  • I should have started yesterday.  Usually it's right after Halloween, so we can enjoy the decorations for a while.  DH isn't happy about it - this is the first Christmas we have lived together, and he thinks I'm nuts and should wait until after TGiving.  Boo.

  • Well SOME people think they're all cool and stuff and start decorating today. But for jealous people like me, I have to wait until my H won't complain. Usually I wait until the day after Thanksgiving, or the first day that we get back from wherever we went for the holiday. However, I do have some decorations out year-round, like a welcome mat, Christmas hat, and some little knickacks.

I'll wait on the tree because it will require moving some stuff around that I need H's help for, but I think after my trip to Walmart tomorrow that decorations will start finding their way around the house...and we'll see how long it takes H to notice.
  • Christmas decorations should be up from Thanksgiving to New Years, no longer in my opinion!

I was at the Burlington mall last week and they already had theirs all up, BEFORE HALLOWEEN!!!
  • I celebrate each holiday as it comes. So, after Thanksgiving I will start decorating for Christmas. Like, right after I finish eating Thanksgiving dinner! I would celebrate Christmas year round if I could. We go pick out our tree (we buy live) and then spend the day decorating it and hanging lights on our house. Then I will slowly decorate around the door (outside), hang my wreath, decorate tree at the end of the driveway and change our garden flag, decorate inside. I just make J help for the tree and house lights. This year I want to find some inexpensive Christmas China and decorate our kitchen table since we don't use it to actually eat.

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my home decorated for xmas. When we bought our new place we got new decoration (everything I had before was college style lol) and its all very classic/modern christmas. I love every piece of it! Sadly though... I don't feel safe with a real tree in a small space so we have a crappy fake tree.

Anyone have good suggestions for nice fake ones?????

    Trees or Boobs?

  • My tree goes up promptly the day after Thanksgiving... and I wrap all of the presents I bought shopping that morning!  :)
  • FI usually resists getting a tree for as long as possible, because he's convinced that it starts actively dying as soon as we get it home, and he wants it to still be "mostly not dead" by Christmas.  But I start wanting a tree at the beginning of December and that's when I start thinking about decorations.

Last year and this year, Christmas has centered around my house because I've invited my grandparents to visit for the holidays, so my dad comes up from LA as well to join the family.  I made a big dinner last year for my family and FI's parents and grandparents, so we'll be doing it again this year, and might even have 2-4 more people coming!!  (I need to find another table to add next to mine- last year it was kind of tight for 10, so I can't imagine doing 14 without a bigger second table.)

I buy presents as early as possible.  In previous years, I've had all my gifts bought by Halloween.  This year I'll be lucky to have them all done by Christmas!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: How early do you decorate? : So now after this and the pumpkin carving, I want to ask a somewhat personal question (ignore if it's too personal): Did you grow up Jehovah's Witness? You definitely have to get one of those cheesy Hallmark ornaments that says, "couple's first christmas". :)

Nah, Catholic, and religion had nothing to do with it. We did decorate for Christmas at home, but I've never done in it a place of my own, because I've always lived alone and gone home for Christmas, and I thought coming home alone to a house full of decorations that I'd need to clean up would be depressing. So now I get to start from scratch, new tree, new ornaments, and everything, and it's awesome.

I talked to my mom about the pumpkin thing today, and she thinks we never carved them because my dad has an intense phobia of anything that might burn the house down. So no candles in pumpkins. We painted them instead.
