Snarky Brides

Calling all Christmas Elves!!

So here's the scoop... Fi and I are going to Fi's family's house for Thanksgiving. We're doing Christmas with my family then heading off to vacation with his family the day after Christmas. So because they don't want to carry Christmas presents on the plane and because Fi's brother and sis-in-law can't get together again before Christmas they all decided that we should do Christmas at Thanksgiving.

Fi and I are heading to Tucson next Friday to visit my cousins and getting back the day before Thanksgiving. This means that we have to have all gifts for his family bought, wrapped and ready to go in a week!!!! Help!

I need gift suggestions... what do you guys get for your in laws? We usually do a date night for Fi's brother/sis-in-law but feel like that gets less cool when you do it year after year. What are good gifts that you've done??

Thanks :-)

Re: Calling all Christmas Elves!!

  • I always get Ben's parents candy.  A nice, 1 or 2 lb box of See's chocolates usually is a hit.  That is, if they like chocolate :) Which Ben's parents do.

His mom is really crafty and loves to decorate - so for her, gifts like seasonal decorations or Christmas ornaments are great.  His dad is really into sports, so anything he can hang up in his man-cave-bar works well.

Hmmm...I'm either a crafty person, or a give them something specific kind of person so I may not be much help. Although I will say I always do pick and "angel tree kid" and go all out - my FFIL and FMIL love it when I do one in their honor. Or maybe a date night in a box - I mean like a date night at home for the two of them? Wine, gift certificate to some place they can order "to go", candles, and a movie?

    Yeah I'm really that unoriginal...

MMM See's.  There's a store a block from my office.  There's also a Godiva store.  I hate working in the Financial district sometimes.  When I take my daily lunchtime brisk walk, I walk past both of them.

  • I ask them what they want and then buy that for them.

haha - that's nice and simple! Fi's parents never tell us and say "Ohh we don't need anything." But then we totally want to get them something and his brother does so we can't not. Oy vey.

Thanks for the suggestions girls. I think a date night for his parents is a great idea - then I can do something else for his Brother.

  • Is a framed engagement picture too lame and narcissistic?

I know that my parents and Ben's parents would both really enjoy a framed engagement picture.

  • Well, we're gifting our parents a wedding album, so if an engagement photo is narcissistic I don't what to know what people think of us lol.

Haha - well a wedding album totally makes sense. It's a big event :-) Engagement pics are just sort of for fun!

  • Sadly, our engagement pics were some of few pics of H and I that weren't taken in a bar/brewery/with a drink in our hands.

Yeah we are doing the same for our Mom's, and I got a free one from shutterfly for taking a survey, so its cheap too.

And this post just totally went to another world, and I was quoting someone by the name of Sea something. Weird.

  • For your FI's  b/sil what about a cooking class they can take together? I think these are really cute--if they are into that. you could get them a giftcard to the place and they could schedule it when they want....that's a nice night out thats pretty unique!
